That's interesting, I wonder if these were actually built by Hotpoint for EE or whether they were just supplied in kit form. There seems to be very few differences between the two. Apart from the filter flow arrangement all I can come up with is, the 1420 had a clockwork timer, a wire mesh grid at the bottom of the outer spin can and I think the recess in the back panel was further towards the centre (it's about 34 years since I last saw a 1420). The little bobbin that the cable exits through and the hose hooks round is even the same. I'll see if I can get a scan of the EE magazine article on here for you.
