"They don’t write cookbooks or host their own TV cooking shows. They don’t travel the country in search of the next cooking competition. But when they cook, they cook with just as much passion and just as much love. To them, a meal is to be created and enjoyed, not warmed up and wolfed down. All they want from a range is reliable, dependable performance, styling that’s easy to build a kitchen around, and common sense features for a fair price.

At G-E, we make ranges just for those cooks. And we call them Hotpoint."

Every once in a while, I get the urge to write a TV commercial. It'll pass. :)

I can hear the sappy mellow violin music playing while a happy middle class family enjoy dinner together. Dad is the strong, but loving bread winner, mom is the endearing housewife and the kids are cool as be.

Wait a minute, isn't this Venus's family?

Joe--

Your ad would be a better ad than most of GE's ads.

The only one that came close (and not very) was the GE Spectra range ad of a few years ago, the woman who liked to "cook big."

I can't remember any Hotpoint TV since Ozzie and Harriet, and only a little Hotpoint print.

Makes me wonder. Either Hotpoint sells itself, or GE is not deeply committed.

Nah. Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" over a series of quick takes showing people having a good time. And a lot of men doing the cooking.

maytagbear:

I know what you mean. At www.geappliances.com, the "GE Brands" link gives you a choice of GE Monogram, GE Profile and GE but no mention of Hotpoint unless you really, really search for it.

For all the things GE might do poorly, they still make a helluva reliable gas range, according to Consumer Reports and its readers (unless, of course, one believes that Consumer Reports is just a bunch of commie-libs who don't understand that, like a fine automobile, an expensive range needs more tender loving care than a cheap piece-o-crap Hotpoint that never breaks down and leaves your dinner uncooked. It doesn't mean it's unreliable. It's just. . .aw, you wouldn't understand.)

I can't see it but I guess Take 5 works. I was thinking something a little less festive but more heartwarming like a slow violin/piano duet.

No no no... the man's at the table with his children and the wife is serving up the piping hot dinner.

Traditionalism (yeah, sexism if you're not traditional, but everyone has a right to opinion :-)

Hotpoint

The lack of info on the GE site is probably because Hotpoint has its own site

In reality...

Though I love Joe's ad, I think this is what you'd get under the current GE ad campaign:

"At GE, we realized our Hotpoint ranges are all over the world. And building a more environmentally friendly range is one of our greatest priorities. So we designed a selector knob that is perfectly smooth--thus eliminating the dangers of pointy knobs that may be inadvertently swallowed by sea turtles.

"At GE, our commitment to the environment doesn't just end with cleaner factories and better pollution controls. It continues with innovative products, and really smooth control knobs. That's Imagination at work."

(*blank stares from family watching television*)

"At GE, we bring you the latest technology in appliances. For example, our new Profile washer series featuring an environmentally friendly plastic wash tub and easy to make, easy to break plastic parts. We have eliminated the unpleasant duty of picking lint off of the filter pan by installing an automatic filter that releases lint balls down the drain in an attempt to clog it. From the timer knob, all the way down to the suspension system, it's all plastic, and our 5 year warranty covers the whole thing until it falls apart. This isn't your mother's Filter-Flo, this is the new Profile laundry system."
