Does anyone else find that picture oddly comforting? A clean cut appliance delivery guy. You know he is going to set that up really nice. The bay window house, with stone in front and flagstone walk. The girl getting excited about the automatic appliance. The cool truck.

I feel lucky I got to experience that sort of thing in real life, the simple family pleasures that I bet many just don't see nowadays.

Me too Kevin. I'm sure there are a lot of parents today that try their best to do a good job, and it's mind-boggling to consider what you all are up against.

Despite the fact I think this in many ways is a very interesting and exciting time in which to live, I myself have always been glad I grew up in the time that I did.

the other 50's

I liked the POD, too. Saw it over breakfast, just before I read an article in the NYTimes that it wasn't until Mrs. Eisenhower insisted that black children were permitted to attend the White House Egg Roll. Must have been about the same time give or take a few as the POD was composed.
A bit of perspective...

She just realised her alloted role in life...

...was not to be a rocket scientist but a slave to the bright goddess of chrome and plastic. I am SO glad I grew up as a boy in the 50's and 60's and not a girl. What horrid things we do to half the human race. And here in the West, we are at least trying.
