~It's all based on hate and fear. Straight men are encouraged to fear being approached by a gay man, that's why so many times gay men have been bashed or murdered when they have made a pass at a homophobe.

I believe every straight man should spend a night in a gay bar (when in his early 20's). See what it is like to be hit upon repeatedly for hours when you are not interested, and you are outnumbered and powerless. I'm guessing cat-calls on the street and other rude and obnoxious gestures towards women 50 leagues above (as well as in their own) class and category would cease.

The "hey baby" and "mira mommi" and "psssst" and horn-hinking are ridiculous overall, but especially when the do-er is a past-prime troll-from-hell-in-the-making.

If the senator wants to look into cracks, he should be sure Oprah (that was a whole lotta crack at one time)is not around and he is not in a men's lu.

or better yet if the women were to beat the living H - E- double- hockey-sticks out of the men making advanes they'd learn a lesson or two about diplomacy and tact genlt rejection when THEY get an advance made towards them.

Craiging

I'm sorry I didn't find this thread earlier! I'm glad Craig got popped. Those holier than god closeted homophobes are responsible for countless teen gay suicides by their refusal to admit what they are and actively fight against rights fr Gays and Lesbians. I hope Craig pays, big time!
However, I am shocked that this entrapment still goes on. For a police officer to sit in a mensroom all day, entrapping men and arresting them, well, the great shame of society is this ongoing device of policing morality.
I don't think CRAIGING in public mensrooms is the healthiest activity but at least the craigers are consenting adults. It is a victimless crime and the situtations that force men into this activity need to be repaired.

Once you have had the best, is there any going back to secon

What was that old classic movie with Al Pacino in it called? He plays an undercover cop that partakes of "the lifestyle" 24/7 for a few months. It was set in NYC-- was it "Cruising?" It is interesting to see that by the end how --if you'll pardon the expression-- it sucks him in.

Maybe so many fear "the lifestyle" because "once in it, you are hooked." *LOL* Perhaps the masses still do believe it is learned behavior rather than innate. Either that or they see that part which is innate in themselves.

-Ditch the *itch and switch.
-Give me 22 minutes and I'll give you the world. (NYC news station motto/logo).
-You know the basic moves; let me teach you how to REALLY have fun.

No one is purely straight, gay or bi. Lovely in theory, but no dice. Life is a continuum, not pigeon-hole categories. If nearly every other attribute in life is distributed on a normal statistcial bell-curve, it becomes difficult to argue that sexuality is --if you will pardon the expression, again-- bi-polar.

CRAIGING

(Inspired by ha_asfan's posting above and by Unimatic's nickname for the "Gentleman from Idaho." Feel free to pass this on; maybe we can make history here by adding a new word to the English Language!!)

--------------------------------

craig·ing /'crɛg-ɪŋ/ verb, slang. The practice by closet-homosexuals of lurking in public toilets seeking sexual encounters.

[Origin: 2007; after Sen. Larry Craig, R. Idaho (a/k/a Tappy McHappy Pants), arrested for soliciting an undercover vice officer in a public men's room at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

--Synonyms: cruising, loitering, trolling, enticing, meat-marketing

--Noun: craiger

holier than god closeted homophobes

I have been following this thread for a while. It seems to me that Craig has been caught in the very net that was thrown to ensnare "the men your mother warned you about." It does seem to be entrapment yet at the same time it is by their own making.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.

I don't know why, but the thing that bothers me is the way Craig kept repeating "I am not gay, I never have been gay." Being a Senator delivering a fairly serious message, I would think he would use the more formal term of "homosexual" instead. The term "gay" takes on a flippant and almost derogatory tone in the context in which Craig uses it. It just goes to show what a simpleton Craig really is.

As far as toilet sex goes, I have never understood it. For that matter, cars, bushes, or any other venue that doesn't provide the comforts of home would be a deal breaker for me. I like to say to each his own, but using a public restroom to get off encroaches upon those who are using it for its designated purpose. I can't relate and never will. How could anyone like Craig feel that what they do in a public bathroom is less "perverted" than two men sharing a comfortable bed with appropriate lighting and all the necessary accessories within easy reach? There is no greater contrast than that between the civilized intimacy of a bedroom and the grunt level desperation of a public restroom. Mr. Craig is a huge pervert compared to any of the homosexual men he supposedly despises. Good riddance to yet another Republican hypocrite, and let's hope the housecleaning and outing continues to cleanse Capitol Hill of these jokers.

Breaking News:

MSNBC and Keith Olbermann just reported that hypocrite, homophobe Sen. Larry Craig has reconsidered his decision to resign.

Unbelievable, looks like another 2008 Dem pickup!

Keeping up appearances.....It's BOUQUET, dear.

Despite all evidence to the contrary...........
I'M NOT GAY and the pope ain't cat-lick.

Perhaps if homosexuals were afforded ALL the rights and priviledges of straights (including marraige) same would not feel the need to hide behind their wives apron strings, and flatly refuse to deny (to themselves, even) what is the reality of the situation. In the end it's possible that his AND HER life are ruined.

54 % were married and living with their wives,
38 % did not consider themselves homosexual or bisexual, and only
14 % identified themselves as openly gay.
(Total exceeds 100%. Categories appear to overlap).

Truly truly I say unto you, the married ones are the most desperate and engage in the most risky behaviors. They honestly believe the universe will protect them from all thing those poor unfortunate low-life homos get and endure. (Social stigma included.)

Maybe the Greco-Romans (before Christianity) had it right. Sexuality (and homosexuality) IN EVERYONE was an accepted part of life.

IMHO, Holier-than-thou in the front and sleezier-than-thou in the rear is so ridiculous in this puraitanical place of ours.

Craig

Okay, so I have been away sailing. Is there any more information "out" (about Craig) than that "interview" he had with the cop? I mean, do we know anything else about his "nefarious" activities? The reason I ask is that I listened to the transcript, while reading the transcript, and got disgusted with the cop, not Sen. Craig. Is that it? That's what we are judging him on, that interview? What am I missing? Based on the interview, I think his biggest crime was thinking he could talk to a cop - but as a politician, one can find oneself in a no win predicament.
I have hard his is a gay basher - and that is a problem, but I can't figure out what the interview proves. Do you all believe the cop?

Craig Clarification

What I mean is - I am going to conclude nothing because someone was under investigation - he was mentioned in the 1982 Tube as being named in an investigation - but what ever came of it? Anti-gay talk is not okay, but what "evidence" is there that allows us to conclude, "if he smells like a duck" (see above), etc. Most of you are probably right, intuitively or whatever - that he is a closeted abuser -- but where is the evidence?
It is frustating for me, always, when political spin just soars without need of facts. Again, what did I miss?
Surely it is not okay to just make assumptions about people.

Craiging

As far as craiging goes, it's been happening for years and will most likely continue to happen....as long as the sign on the door says "MEN", you can expect a lot of customers. Not to make light of a sad facet of society, the reality is this: society needs to reform so that we can all live peacefully as what and whom we are without the need for mensroom sex. Why do they call the mensroom on a ship the "head"?

"Sen. Larry Craig has reconsidered his decision to resign..."

Remember, most of these people are crazy.

~Why do they call the mensroom on a ship the "head"?
Perhaps related to the reason the pilots' space on a plane is the cockpit. With an all female crew does it become the box-office?

~Remember, most (of these) people are crazy.
EVERYONE is crazy; only in some it is more obvious and shows up earlier.

WOW! We are now up to 201 as we speak with this thread

This is my two cents............He got caught. The Conservative Neo con people are spinning this like it was a sting operation or a witch hunt.I am glad that it is out in the open. i lived in Utah and saw lots of married white guys that would mess around with us young guys( maybe not 100 years old and totally creepy Baptist sinister minister looking) they were actually hot all of them that I saw., I thought it sad they would have to lie so they could get their needs met sexually. I believed one guy who had told me he had come out and was divorced and now single, until I saw him in front at an LDS church service with his lovely wife, and yes she was lovely......living a lie, just like the senator. This is very common in Utah and Idaho in my expierience because of all of the sexual supression which leaves me to wonder..............is he really sorry? Or sorry he was caught? By a cute Miniapolis police officer no less.........Is he gay or Tri sexual( he will try anything sexual?)
Ducks and runs for the hills stage left<<<

Ritchie, I used to be one of those married white Utah Mormon guys who hooked up with other married gay Mormons. And yes, it is still very common in Utah and Idaho. But, at least it was in private and not in the privvy. It was also of mutual consent. I did feel guilty about it, as it wasn't the right thing to do to my wife. I have also apologized profusely to her.

After my divorce and coming out, I did manage to snare a nice returned missionary to whom I'm still partnered after 33 years.

Just for the record..................

I AM not Gay! I have NEVER been Gay! However my boyfriend of the last 18 years is Gay.

How about we change Senator Craig to, "Senator Harriet Craig", named after one of Joan Crawford's best films?

Charlie my man, you're one of the last people anyone would ever suspect of being gay. Suspect about other things maybe, but not about being gay.

It's quite possible that Mrs. Craig is gay as well. Soon after coming out back when I was mucho younger I went to a party and lo and behold there were the fathers of some of my classmates. Of one of them I was told his wife was also gay, no one would have ever known

I just received this eMail from Outfront Minnesota (one of the larger GLBT organizations in the state), after doing some research on their own they have finally released a statement on the whole ordeal and I found it quite interesting...

Senator Larry Craig

In the last week there's been much publicity in the case of U.S. Senator Larry Craig (R - Idaho), who was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for attempting to solicit sex from an undercover police officer in a bathroom at the Twin Cities International Airport.

When situations like this become public, many in our community become concerned about police enforcement - is this entrapment? Are the police singling out gay men? While there have been incidents of unequal enforcement of the laws against GLBT people historically, we don't believe that is the case here. From everything we know, the police conducted their investigation in response to citizen complaints. There is no indication of entrapment, nor of selective enforcement of law solely against gay men. In fact, OutFront Minnesota has anecdotal information suggesting that airport authorities have also been targeting heterosexual activity there.

Senator Craig has opposed including GLBT people in federal hate crimes legislation; supports the military's 'Don't Ask Don't Tell' policy; voted for the Federal Marriage Amendment; and supported his own state's constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality. He has spoken out against the right of individuals and partners in committed loving relationships to live openly and honestly, while practicing closeted behavior in his private life. While we join the myriad voices pointing out the hypocrisy on the part of a senator who derives political benefit from casting anti-GLBT votes while purportedly seeking out same-sex sexual contacts, we also understand the role that institutionalized oppression has contributed to this situation. Senator Craig is not the first person to have been taught that to be GLBT is wrong, abnormal, or immoral.

OutFront Minnesota has worked closely with police throughout the state for nearly 20 years. We represent the GLBT community on the Minneapolis Police Community Relations Council, train new police recruits to help ensure the best services for the GLBT community, and work closely with police departments on the subject of equal enforcement of the law.

Anyone who believes they have received unfair treatment by the police may contact our Anti-Violence Program at 612 822-0127, ext. 101 (or statewide toll-free at 1-800-800-0350, ext. 101).

For referral to an attorney to assist with these or other legal issues, please contact our Legal Program at 612 822-0127, ext. 102 (or statewide toll-free at 1-800-800-0350, ext. 102).

Finally, it's unfortunate that the issue of "gay sex" becomes public when it's framed as "lewd" or "disorderly." As everyone in our community knows, lots of gay men are in committed, loving relationships where sex is a healthy part of their lives together. Hopefully our culture and our media will eventually evolve to recognize this.

I think that if it goes to court Craig will probably win as I believe he should because the evidence is nill, but I'm still thrilled it happened, what goes around comes around as the old saying goes.

I'm curious, if anyone here knows factually, whether this type of behavior is common in European countries, or just here in this sexually repressed, homophobic, "family values" society??

Your way is not the only way, Mary.

Here is a urinal in the open-air in Amsterdam, Holland circa 1990.

I'm thinking other cultures are not as hung-up on sexuality and body functions as we are.

Think also of Scandinavian countries where grandma is in the sauna with daddy and the daughter and son; nekked. And before anyone goes off on a tirade on these practices just remember how strange "we" look to "them".

Another reminder that sexuality is not necessarily a bad thing.

A tribute to Homosexuals also in Amsterdam, Holland circa 1990.

Can you just picture this in the USA? In some little-@$$ bible-thumping town in the south, especially.

Big country. Small minds.

My two cents, also.....

Every woman wants one...(except for lesbos) and every man wants another!

Show me a good looking guy who wouldn't want another good looking guy.
