It's 3 am, storming like hell, and the sirens have been going off since 6 pm. There's already reports of two deaths and extensive damage. With the exception of one month, I have lived here all my life, but I can NEVER remember having tornadoes in January.

Same here, it was in the teens then suddenly went into the upper 60's, lower 70's. It is 6:42am and 68 right now.

hang in there.. i remember tornados in jan along with other strange things.. like toggle said somthing strange is going on in the world..im not sure if its some sort of climate shift or what but along with all the other odd things going on with the weather it seems like all sorts of trees and plants are dying around here and thats strange too. oh and before i forget to ask hey andy have you been feeling any like mild or tiny earth tremors down your way?? i have been feeling them here and i dont like the thought of that

It was 8 C (46 F) here yesterday which was another record breaker for this part of the country. Normally we are lucky if it gets up to -20 C (-4 F) at this time of year. And last evening we had a incredible thunder and lightning show, again very rare at this time of year. Another record was broken when we got 21 mm of rain.

Anytime you get air masses mixing and the jet stream mixing in with the convergence zone you get this kind of weather. On this past trip I have flown in some of the bumpiest weather I have ever flown in. It's uncomfortable for some people.
Global warming at its finest?

Whatever

the cause (and my vote is with the serious scientists), I do hope you are safe, Andy.
Gosh, only been in one tornado directly.
That was in Kansas and more than enough for me for several lifetimes.
Nasty, brutish things.
Stay well!

Here too...

Last week(New Years eve) we had 6+ inches of snow, followed by some single digit temps...it was ugly.
For the past couple of days temps around here have been in the middle 50's, yesterday it was 65!
As I was falling asleep last night there was a furious storm passing through, and while not immediately around me I could hear several different tornado sirens blaring from surrounding suburbs.
It was worse and more violent south of here, there were reports of a tornado on the ground just east of Joliet about 6pm yesterday, which is Michael's neck of the woods.
Glad to hear everyone is safe! I am sure next week we will have a different story to tell!

I love tornado weather! Grab a beer, head outside to meet the neighbors and watch the sky! We might as well have the tornadoes since the hurricane season has been a bust for 2 years now...

my sypathies

As a survivor of mother natures wrath ( a disastorous flood in 72 that killed 235 of my nieghbors in less than four hours) my heart and prayers are with you. Weve been watching it on the news, I know what youre going through.

By the way toggles, remember back when it wasnt nice to fool mother nature? You should see what happens when she gets pissed

Well everything's ok at home and at the store. We had some soffit torn off of the side of the garage, which isn't that big of a deal compared to what happened to some of these outlying towns. There are some limbs down, but the limbs that would have caused the most damage came down last year in the ice storm anyway. After I got done posting I had to go downstairs because it was so hot and humid up in my bedroom.

Chris, I haven't felt any tremors and I hope I don't anytime soon. The New Madrid faultline scares the hell out of me. The force of the 1812 earthquake here in Missouri rang churchbells in Boston.

Had a record day here yesterday as well.. 15.6 or 61 F. then the tornado watch warnings came on the tv about 6pm but other than a bit of rain and some thunder and lightning we didn't get hit with anything.

In checking weather reports for Cincinnati, I have found to my astonishment that it's warmer THERE than it is in Los Angeles! It's 66d. in Cin. today and only 53 in L.A.

Now THAT is weird.

{{{*oooooooEEEooooooo!*}}}

Aerosol cans = bad weather. Huh???

Glad to hear everything is relatively OK in your area, Andy. I'll bet that was so strange hearing the sirens in January. I remember that only happening once here - in early December.

No major storms or even precipitation around here, just sunny and mild. Highs in the upper 30's with a chance of snow toward the end of the week - but only a slight chance.
