Last week, I cleaned out my kitchen cabinets, and in the process ended up throwing out most of my plastic containers that I'd been using to store leftovers for years. A lot of them didn't have lids anymore, and they were all pretty stained up, smelled mildly like stale food, and were just kinda gross.

I was originally just going to replace the plasticware with similar, but ended up buying a glass food storage set from Amazon. The containers still have plastic lids, but I really like them otherwise. They clean up really well in the dishwasher, no greasy nasty food residue left behind, which often happened with the plastic. And they all stack nicely together, so I can't see myself misplacing the lids. Also, I can see the large round bowls being useful for storing leftover soups and stews, something the plastic containers never really did well. I honestly don't think I'll be returning to plastic for storing leftovers.

Have any of you guys abandoned plastic storage for another medium, and if so, has it worked well for you? So far, I'm quite impressed.

This is the set I purchased.

I just use the Pyrex and other glass bowls, Corelle bowls and glass containers that I already have to store leftovers and other foods and cover them with plastic wrap.  I also have a few vintage Pyrex refrigerator dishes with covers.  I have a few plastic containers, but seldom use them.

Back in the olden days of my childhood, before plastic wrap became readily available folks would cover bowls with wax paper and secure it with either string or a rubber band or they used cleaver reusable plastic covers with elastic around the edge to hold them on the bowls.  These covers could be washed, air dried and used over and over again.  These covers can still be purchased on eBay.

My go to for storage are Corningware grab its.  Been using them for close to 40 years.  They come in 2 versions - original which are heat proof corningware and a  later version which are a different material which can't be used on the stove top. Mine have glass lids, also have plastic too but never use them. For larger items/quantities I have a set of Pyrex bowls.

Wow, just looked online and these are now crazy expensive! Glad they are durable.  I have a set of 4 I use  daily plus a backup set of 4.

I use a variety of things for storing leftovers

But have moved completely away from using any soft plastic items, I'm very partial to these GE storage containers that came with their high-end refrigerators in the 80s and 90s, the base is a hard plastic that's designed for oven. Use up to 400° I won't even put them in the microwave however And then they have a real Lexan lid, I find these very convenient because the lids seal beautifully, but just set in place you don't have to fight with them even if they were in the freezer.

I use a lot of Corningware where I have lids for them for refrigerator storage. I also use a lot of canning jars And my corral dishes work very well. The bowls you just use one of the saucers for a lid for a small quantities of leftovers.

Yes I got an early Black Friday special with my Walmart world plus account and got a 17 piece set of glass containers for food. Some dishwasher detergent fragrance gets glued to the plasticware since I’ve switched to Kroger lemon powder that doesn’t happen anymore but I always have spotting on plastics and can’t microwave food in them so I wanted to switch to glass to eliminate all of those issues which it has.

If cascade was still as good of a brand as they once used to be they’d still make the plastic booster. There is no reason they shouldn’t be making that still with how many people have the desire to remove stains off plastic ware and also stains in plastic interior machines too.

(Love how they used a Powerclean in the advertising of this plastic booster, and look HOW MUCH Cascade gel is in that main wash cup). I’d do anything to be able to smell the old cascade products again. I need it in candle form.
