After getting a Turquoise refrigerator last year,

And a turquoise dishwasher from SteveD soon after...

I finally got a turquoise oven and cook top that have been advertised for over a year locally on Craigslist and on eBay.

Their external wiring was cut so I need to find new fuse panels and replace a few wires but they are in decent shape otherwise.

I had to test the oven's clock/timer and it still works! (See the link). Now I need to find a Turquoise washer and dryer to complete the set!

Sooo cool! We need to find you a Frigdaire disposer and you'll have the complete '1965 Beacon Hill Monarch Homes' kitchen...
Great save, Phil. The lighted clock dial of the oven is really something!

Paul, should I get a turquoise sink for the disposer!?

I figured that if I didn't get these, they might eventually end being scrapped... And because of the neighborhood where these come from, I see an interesting connection between these and how I first talked to you a few years ago when I saw that "wanted" ad on Craigslist from someone searching Turquoise Frigidaire appliances from Beacon Hill!

I don't have the exact text for your ad but here's my original reply!

"Hi, unfortunately, I can't help you but I'm also looking for old Frigidaire appliances, if you ever come across something that doesn't interest you... I'm looking for a frost-proof bottom freezer refrigerator from the late fifties to the mid-sixties I'd also like a set of Frigidaire washer/dryer from the early sixties (any color is fine!).

Thanks

Phil

Still haven't got a washer/dryer set from the early sixties... Maybe someday!

About the oven that I got today, all I did so far was replacing a light bulb for the clock dial that was burned and the knob for the Meat Tender that was broken...

Phil,

Tappan also made nice-looking appliances. Some also had nice chrome ovens.

If I ever see a washer/dryer set for sale locally in turquoise that isn't Frigidaire, I think I'll pass! I don't want to loose a friend because I get a pair of Turquoise Lady Kenmores before he does! But if they happen to be Frigidaires, I hope he'll forgive me!

Very Cool Phil

Congratulations. Me being a fellow Frigidaire fan I know how cool it is to get a complete set together and in such a cool color. You sure have had good luck finding these. Hope you are on a roll and find a turquoise washer and dryer to go with them.

Patrick

Really nice!!

I particularly like that model wall oven!

TWIMC: I have a turquoise Hotpoint 4 burner elec cooktop (just the metal cooktop sans controls and burners) in mint condition, free to a good home. One could convert any Hotpoint cooktop to turquoise by using your guts and this piece. It's for the Hotpoint cooktop that has the controls between the 2 front (smaller) burners, and 2 large burners in the back.

Thanks for your comments everyone!

Roger, I remember you showed me your Hotpoint turquoise cooktop cover

Greg, I have seen the '65 Custom Deluxe set in Florida. I also wish it was a bit closer... In fact, I also wish it would be a WI-65/DI-65 set or a Custom Imperial set!

Here in Canada, it would have to be an Imperial because the Custom Imperial wasn't available starting in 1965 (there were just 5 models offered here in 1965). Strangely, the Custom Deluxe models like the set in Florida (with the remote timer knob) was available with a suds saver here too (WCDRC-65) but not in the US (it was the WCDAR-65 without the remote timer knob).

That's right Tom, that's because each pair of burners was on a separate circuit.

Look at this Canadian 30" Custom Imperial range, it also has 2 burner lights and no "speed heat" but it's otherwise identical (or almost) to the US models. After that, the Canadian free standing ranges were quite different-looking from the US models and they didn't look as nice...

The other thing that was different on some Canadian Frigidaire appliances was the color of the porcelain inside. My built-in ovens have gray porcelain like the US models.

But the 30" range above has dark porcelain.

"I don't want to loose a friend because I get a pair

Ah, but you forget - I KNOW where you live... LOL

I forgave you for the Control Towers, so I think I'd cope with you finding a set of Turquoise LK's!!

PhilR: That link for CL was null - so they sold and I missed the pics.
Once in a while, it's nice to have something so old require so little other than a bulb and a knob.
Finding an old 60's washer and dryer will come..and give 'em some baked cookies or cakes as a reminder to keep a lookout for a matched pair. :-)

Not that you have any plans right now, but let us know how you liked using the stove, what you cooked or bake. It's straightforward to use, but did you get a manual with it?

I didn't get a manual for it but I should figure how it works without it! I have two Flairs and I have both owner's manuals (in French!) for them.

Phil, mine is the 40" and the only one with the linear Cookmaster controls. I like the little concertina wire-looking guard across the front of the oven to protect a user from touching the bake element of the range in your picture. Where are the fuses located? I was told about them in the 60s by a lady who had a vacation place in Canada with an electric stove.

I think that in 1961 ovens they were still located at the left of the storage drawer like in my 1960 Deluxe range. Later models, which looked completely different from the US models had theirs under a removable panel on the lower part of the console.

40" ranges like yours weren't available anymore from Frigidaire in the 1960's here.

Canadian Compact 30 ranges had their fuses located behind a chrome strip visible below their oven door (I don't have a picture showing one but I've seen one).

Built ins and Flairs had a remote fuse panel and Flairs with a base cabinet had their fuse panels located in their base cabinets.

Here's another newer free standing Canadian Frigidaire 30" range, "K" model from 1966.

Detail from the same range. The Canadian Imperial models still had no self cleaning ovens but kept the "Pull-N-Clean" ovens from the early sixties.

Other than having a large glass in their doors, they looked a bit like the older, pre-1965 Frigidaire ranges with a full width door and similar top.

Here's an ad from November 1967 showing Canadian appliances. They were the last generation ("L" ranges, "N" washers and "P" dishwashers) built here. The Canadian factory in Scarborough was fully converted to automotive production in 1970. Some appliances were also imported from the US since at least the mid-sixties since my 1965 top loading (D&M) Super dishwasher was sold new here but made in the US. I think that at about the same time, some of the fancier refrigerators started to be imported from the US too but I'd like to find out more about that...

Congratulations PhilR!!!

I too, am a turquoise fan, and also a huge fan to wall ovens/cooktops. That set you got is really beautiful. I have a GE set that I was thrilled to get when I found them 8 years ago. Good luck finding the washer/dryer set you want. Love the refrigerator too!

What's Blue and Goes Ding Dong?

The Avon Lady in Antartica. Phil, I am pleased you're able to assemble such a tribute to design and esthetics long missing from modern appliances. I am happier you found them for yourself because it could go to a more deserving guy. I think I need to touch your head and see if some of the bottom freezer good luck wears off. I had a 63 Custom Imperial for a number of years and really enjoyed using it. Patti said she felt like June Cleaver everytime she opened the door. I haven't seen one close for a long time. Last year a fellow in Oregon was remodeling and had a brushed chrome kitchen of appliances. A 40 inch Flair, Kitchenaid dishwasher and Frigidaire Custom Imperial fridge with the motorized door opener and chain drive ice maker, still working and all pristine. Having just been through the expense of renting trucks twice and driving to Oregon for two Flair disappointments, I would have done it for the fridge yet the fellow didn't want to break up the set. In retrospect, I should have bitten the bullet and done it. It cost 785.00 for gas and rental to drive to Portland and back so it makes one hesitate when added to a purchase price.

Kelly, did you get pictures of this fridge?
This model is on the top of my wish list!

My 1963 brushed chrome refrigerator also came from a kitchen with brushed chrome appliances. A brushed chrome Imperial cooktop and a Custom Imperial 30" Flair wall oven both from 1963 but there was no spin tube dishwasher in sight...

The other appliances were not available as the fridge alone was replaced (because it was noisy). The noisy condition was much easier to address than I expected! And it's been running fine since I got it.

Is the Flair you showed in your post currently in your kitchen? I have one just like it that (RCIB-645C-2) and I haven't used yet. I thought I'd replace my older one which is currently just beside my 1963 refrigerator with this one so the years would match but I haven't done it yet... I first thought about repainting the base cabinet and side panels of my 1961 RCIB-645C in Turquoise so it would match my 1961 refrigerator but now that I got the turquoise built-ins, I don't know what I'll do with all these! For now, I'll just keep them, along with a few other appliance that are waiting to be connected! (but all have been tested/repaired as needed! And all my fridges are connected even if some are almost empty!

Flair No Flair

I bought a Harvest Gold late model Flair with percelain oven cavities. It worked well but the Heat Minderonly worked on high. I found an earlier Flair that looked wonderful. $1,100.00 later with purchase, gas and truck rental I learned the oven had been moved to the basement. In the move th burners unseated which kept the top from opening. A dismantle from below freed th burners but the entire top was rusted and it also had a fry on high stuck Heat Minder. Although I like the esthetic wih the amount of quantity cooking I swapped the Flair for a 40 inch double oven with two full sized oven cavities. The holy grail search for a bottom fridge continues.
