Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Someone on another board on which I post mentioned a tv cook I don't care for, so I want to find out which ones you like?

I don't watch tv much anymore, but cooking shows were always favourites.

Some I like, in no particular order:

Julia Child (and who could forget Dan Akroyd's SNL sketch of her???)

Alton Brown, (and Shirley Corriher's appearances.)

Graham Kerr (the original series, when he still drank alcohol, and used cream.)

Sara Moulton

Maryann Esposito

Mario Batali (oh, red bears just do something to me! Yes, I know he's married.)

Rick Bayless

And in a category of her own, Marcia Adams ("Cooking From Quilt Country."

The British ones I've seen whom I've liked:

Delia Smith

and

The Two Fat Ladies. Oh, how I miss Jennifer Paterson.

Yours?

Fave Cooks

I would have to say that I love Lidia on PBS and my all time fave is Paula Deen. I have made quite a few things of hers and the recipies are easy to follow. The one thing that I made was her Southern Comfort Punch. Now I dont drink but it sure didnt take much to get me trashed. Her beef Stew which I made yesterday is a big hit and her pot roast.

Nigella Lawson!!!

and Graham Kerr, TOS. I like Rachael Ray as TV personality but not as a cook. Also Jeff Smith (was that his name) the Frugal Gourmet.

Nigella beats all the others - her way of cooking is much like my own. I'm looking forward to seeing her episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" in a couple of weeks time.

Jamie Oliver is alright sometimes, but he was better when he was a breath of fresh air and before he was everywhere.

I like Delia's recipes, but some of her TV shows are so incredibly patronising I want to bop her on the head with a rolling pin.

Not seen many of the American ones, but I do like Bourdain.

i met Graham Kerr here in San Antonio, he spoke at a convention. i loved Jeff Smith as a child. Rachael Ray acts too perky and annoying. Paula Deen is a doll! i mostly like Alton Brown, though he CAN cloy at times. His narration on Iron Chef is flawless. Sarah Moulton is hilarious when she makes all those little mistakes and digressions. Barefoot Contessa makes me barf! what was the name of the french guy that had the chocolate show on Food tv? he was HOT. i also liked the youngish asian guy who did *east meets west*. (can you detect a mild case of tourettes?)

I like Paula Deen more than I like her recipes. I've made several from her TV show (the Decadent Brownies were like something I would have made in the summer cooking class I took when I was in 5th grade) and her cookbooks, none of which struck me as even being the best of 'home cooking' genre.

But how can you not love her persona? And I hear she's done some acting---successfully, even---lately.

Delia Smith Rocks

but the best tv guy has to be Keith Floyd. What a fantastic no nonsense galloping gourmet! Swiggin all kinds of local alcohol during filming and finding local recipes all over the world we would never know about. Nick

These are the TV cooks I like

Alton Brown, Dave Lieberman, Duff Goldman, Giada DeLaurentis, Bobby Deen, Jamie Deen, Mario Batali, Michael Chiarello, Paula Deen, Rachael Ray, Sara Moulton, Tyler Florence, Juan-Carlos Cruz, Cat Cora, George Duran, Warren Brown

Favorite TV Cooks

My favorite TV cooks are:

Paula Deen: (like Eugene said, how can you NOT love her persona)

Julia Child: I have always loved Julia Child, and I miss her. How could you not love the combination of expertise and the sheer JOY that she demonstrated when she (or someone else in her last years) was cooking something wonderful.

I also like Alton Brown, but Chris always kids me about him looking like Thomas Dolby and breaks into "She Blinded Me with Science." LOL.

Julia will always be Number One.

Love Rachael Ray. She's almost worth going straight for.

Tyler Florence is always the tastiest dish in whatever kitchen he's in.

We had a local lady--Sylvia Scott--who hosted a program called "The Woman's Angle." Still miss her.

Oh, Veg......

Rachael Ray?

Yes, she is arguably pretty, but oh, that's about all!

I have never seen the Deens on tv, but have flipped through one cookbook by them. Good for them, but I prefer Nathalie Dupree, Leah "Dooky" Chase, Damon Lee Fowler and Mrs. S.R.(Henrietta) Dull for Southern Cooking

TV Faves

I love Paula Deen, Giada DeLaurentis, Sandra Lee, Ina Garten, and Tyler Florence!!!! Dave Lieberman, well he's my husband. I bet you didn't know that. That's okay. He doesn't either!!

I want Ina's kitchen. How do they all make it look so easy?

I have two copies of Mrs. S. R. Dull's cookbook, one a purchase, one a gift. The grandmother of friends in Avondale, knew Mrs. Dull when she taught at Girls' High in Decatur, GA and the mother of those friends has the copy she received as a bride in 1949. Mrs. Dull went on to become the Food Editor of the "Atlantra" Constitution.

Jacques Torres was the star of Dessert Circus, but he was so hot that it was a wonder he could handle, hell even look at, chocolate without melting it.

I first watched Julia Child at a neighbor's house when she had the Thermador side by side ovens and the big Thermador cooktop.

Between the ages of 6 and 13, we traveled all over the Southeast with my father during the summer. In the mornings, after the Today show and Captain Kangaroo, some cities had a local cooking show called The Blue Flame Kitchen sponsored by, TA DAAAH, the local gas company. They were a hoot to watch. The women all dressed in white uniforms with hair nets, and white lace-up shoes to show that they were professional Home Economists and were of a certain age. The set was like a Home Ec lab with several food preparation areas. Whether they were taking ice cubes out of the gas refrigerator or turning on the stove, there was a long winded plug for the gas appliance, especially the Burner With A Brain.

I liked to watch, and just listen to, Justin Wilson. For years he cooked on a WCI electric cooktop and seemed to have no problems using all of his Magnalite pans. Have you heard the sad story about Magnalite? Hang on to what you have of the original stuff because it might not ever be available again.

Joan Nathan is a friend of a friend and a very nice, down to earth as well as fascinating person to talk with.

I was one of Nathalie Dupree's guinea pigs when she started the cooking school at Rich's. I stood in front of the beautiful 1974 TOL GE 30" range that I was to use and whispered a prayer that one day I would have one and I do.

My favorites were Jeff smith, Julia Child, Graham Kerr, Justin Wilson,..and last but not least Earl Peroux. Lidia is my new favorite...she is THE BOMB in my book.

That was when shows were about real cooking and not that fancy ass BS so many of the frustrated wanna be rockstars perform on TV FOOD Network.
