Gimmee a Break and stuff.....

The machine that was used on the opening sequences to "Gimmee a Break" show was a Eureka Cordaway Brandywine Canister TOL model. I don't rememeber the exact model number off hand but Jeff probably would know unless I could just find the pamphlet he gave me on the Brandwine series cleaners..... It was the TOL machine the canned hambody with the hose coming out of the top. Not in front like most Eureka can's.

I believe that the machine used in the "Munsters" was the old cylindrical Eureka tank type. But all that dust thru the motor...whatever it was...after that episode was done...that poor thing was probably trashed.

There was an Episode of "Mama's Family" where she took to court the makers/or sellers of what appeared to be a mid 80's Kenmore Twin Fan upright...that I remember was a BOL madel with a blue stripe up the bag. ANd you further know it's a TwinFan as it has the small rectangle shaped headlight and the tall adjustment knob...and it was set to LO bacause the machine looked VERY hiked up in the back. Anyway, Mama was mad over some such thing and was trying to sue them for some such reason over something the machine did or diddn't do.

There was one episode that I just saw recently of the Golden Girls where you can plainly see (in the garage)the handle and upper bag of an OLD Oreck, one of the early Whirlypool knokoff's old if you know what I mean.

Also on "I dream of Jeannie" she sucked off the caot of one of Major Nelson's collegues with what appeared to be a LARGE Shop Vac type cleaner and when taken out it was cut to shreds. A piece of magical legeardamain might I add.

Also on "Happy day's" Marion had a VERY out of place Kirby Classic Omega that she was using to clean Fonzies apartment.

"Laverne and Shirley", the sucessful spin off of the former used a Hoover 918 that had a horribly taped up upper handle and sat way in the back of the set by the window that looked up to the street. In another episode Laverne was trying to vacuum one of their few rugs with a period 1970's Regina Cyclonic canister that I rememebr was a deep forest green and a lighter lemony green...that was equipped with way too many wands which made the thing impossible to use..and of course it created hoopla and laughter...but the machine again was out of place for the time period..becasue they were still in Milwaukee when this episode aired. I don't remember seeing one in California tho.

On one episode of Ozzie and Harriet, you can plainy tell that Chris, Ricky's wife was using a period early 1960's Hoover Convertible in their apartment. It's the episode where she gets a job to buy a lamp that she saw.

And finally the machine used on "Everybody Loves Raymond" was in fact a Rainbow, and in the credits it gives thanks to Rexair Corp. of Troy Michigan.

I could think ofmore but I have laundry to do...

Chad

Oh yes

Happy days had several vacuums... in the first season Ritchie comes in the front door to find Howard fixing a Hoover Convertible model 1020(a 1969 machine in 1955?)
On another episode Marion is using a Hoover 913/918(probably borrowed from Lavene & Shirley)
Another episode of L & S featured a Regina Canister, again from the future. Funny how those people could travel forward in time, buy appliances, and return.
Maybe they knew Marty McFly?

The Munsters, Plus..

The vacuum cleaner that was used on the Munsters was a Kenmore Commander tank vacuum cleaner. This vacuum cleaner was already out of production by the time this show was produced. What they would have to do is tear the bag to allow the dirt to go through the motor and out the exhaust. Or not use a bag at all. The hose was connected to the exhaust end. In one episode, you can hear the motor with the bad bearings(0f course).

I do remember the Electrolux on Eight is Enough, but there was also a Hoover upright.

There is one episode of Bewitched that featured a Regina canister. I am pretty sure I mentioned it a long time ago. If Bewitched is seen on TV today, the scene may be cut.

Roseanne

spiralactivator,

I think I know the vacuum you are talking about. It was not an Electrikbroom(Regina), but a Hoover Quik Broom like an S2099.

Roseanne

Several vacuums were featured on Roseanne:
Early in the series a Hoover Concept II can be seen in the laundry room next to the water heater.
Later on there's a Dial-A-Matic powerdrive U6039, that in one epidose shows JOhn Goodman taking it apart at the Kitchen table. The Dial A Matic can be seen in various closets too.
There is an Electrolux canister, of which we never see more than the hose grip and part of the wand.
A Hoover quick broom, early 90's style with the dirt cup and soft bag.
Some kind of Panasonic/Kenmore commercial upright, later in the series.

Eight is Enough had a Hoover Commercial 918.

On TVland, where Bewitched is running, they have been having 10 second commercials for different shows while the credits for other shows are running. In one of these commercials they show Samantha using a lime green and medium brown Hoover upright vacuuming by the Foyer and television in the living room.

And how could we forget

The central vacuum on Home improvement. I don't remember seeing the unit though.

Home Improvement

I remember the CV being discussed, but there was an episode where Jill was using a 1990's red Hoover. I think it was a Tempo. I also remember a Kenmore being used on Alice and various vacuums used on Full House. An older model upright either Hoover or Eureka was used on Who's The Boss with him vacuuming the drapes with it. Tim

More vacs

An Electrolux XXX was used on an early Lassie, I only remember Edith using a Hoover convertible on All in the family, Louise Jefferson had many vacuums Hoover & Eureka on The Jeffersons. There was an episode of Dennis the Menace that Mrs. Wilson was vacuuming her Living Room with a canister of some sort. Does anyone else remember? There was also an episode of one of those old b&w family shows from the fifties where a delivery man brings in a new Hoover to the family and the dad makes him return it. Does anyone remember that show? Tim

At the 204 VCCC convention we watched a DVD that Showed some vacuum scenes from movies and TV shows. One was on Dennis The Menace, appeantly he had clooged it up with leaves and they had a repairman come and look at it. When he left with the vacuum to take it to the shop, he made a comment about how he hated to see nice machines abused. this was a GE Roll Easy

BTW We watched this DVD in Fred Nelson's living room.

Raymond

Raymond's mother Marie had an old black Hoover in her living room like she had just been vacuuming. It's the only other episode with a vacuum that I know of except the Rainbow saga. Tim

About Green Acres....

Yes I remember that episode....BUT,

In the original first season, there was plainly a Kirby Sanitronic in her kitchen or possibly earlier like a 562. It was the episode where the house still has no electricity, and Oliver rigged up this OLD OLD Dear Jeesus old powerplant to the house. And during it Lisa keeps blowing cicuits to this machine becasue she doesnt follow his directions as to too many things overloading this generator thing.

He even puts up a chart on the kitchen wall saying that she can never go over the number 10 at one time. And thru the episode she continuously does this. This is also the episode where you can see ALL of her applainces...and some that never made it to the following shows/ or season like a matched washer and dryer that were far right beside a counter of some sort. Not to mention the Maytag Combo that was laongside the stove. She also had a dishwasher, and a whole BUNCH of other stuff.

Problem being...that their refrigerator, which was a six....NEVER needed to be plugged in all of the time. Uh isn't that nasty?

I think that later they actually GOt power but not after many slapschtick episodes went by trying to actuall get it to the house or something...

Mother Nature

"That buyer is the actress that played "Mother Nature" in the Parkay Margaine commercials. "

It was for Chiffon margarine, not Parkay

Green Acres

They never got electricity in the house other than from Mr. Haney's beat-up generator, and the telephone never made it off the phone pole

About Green Acres...and all!!!

Yeah,

So I was never a big Green Acres Fan, however I purchased the complete first season on DVD for like super cheap and couldn't pass it up. Anyways, I just saw the episode of where Lisa keeps overloading the "haney Generator" and during the episode showing ALL of the appliances crammed into her small country kitchen.

Yesterday in a moment of boredom, I watched a few more episodes...and one in particular stuck out...where Oliver purchases a derelict old tractor from Haney called a Hoyt Clagwell or some such thing..that thru the episode consistently breaks down.

In all the Lincoln Convertible the Oliver drives makes the entire sitcom worth watching. Yeesh..imagine driving around in a 1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible....I would put up with a farm for one of those!

Anyway, I saw a rerun of the old sitcom Alf. And in that episode you see Alf running scared of the mom's Royal Upright. The old Deep blue bag model.

And on Different Strokes, you see Adelaide plainly using a Electrolux Super J with the BEAUTIOUS Chrome Powerhead over by the grand staircase as Willis and Arnold argue over something. The machine get's alot of on stage buisness at leas three to five minutes worth of her turning it on and off to overhear their conversations so she could rat them out to Mr Drummond. I never liked Adelaide....I loved Mrs. Garrett tho.

Anyways...

Chad

Don't Remember

I don't remember the Electrolux on Different Strokes. That show doesn't come on anymore, so I'll have to wait to see it I guess. Tim
