I love this thread Paul as all your other ones as its great to see the evolution of the models - are we getting another instalment of the next gens? I'd love to see where my microprofile fits in.

That's a great picture Graham. I think that wallpaper is similar to the one in the pictures of the Hotpoint liberator de luxe that Rob picked up in Liverpool and I love the big box of New System Persil - that was in the days when they always came with a measuring cup!

I always used to prefer Hoover machines when I was younger - I think they always seemed to be a bit more dramatic but I'm falling more and more for these older Hotpoints - perhaps its the noise of the springs!

I love threads like these, you can really get a feel for how the technology and looks grew and developed over time.

Great photo too Graham! I love how even back then people still ignored the pull strip to open the box of Persil and just ripped the top open instead!

Thanks to Jon for pictures of his 9540 - a smart bit of kit! Survived by the skin of its teeth - if I remember rightly, it was delisted from ebay due to the door being broken off it and would probably have been handed to the local council, had jon not got in touch with seller. Thank goodness you did jon, as now we have a fine example of this model in preservation.

Hi Paul, no need to apologise, I understand sometimes creating a thread such as this can take some time. It's good to be able to see some of the 'Next Generation' models that I had heard of but never seen a picture of (9512, 9528 etc), I only remember a few 95s from my childhood, my Nanny & Grandad's 9517(W), my other Grandparents on my dad's side had a polar white 9526 and my neighbour had a 9530, as well as a couple of other houses when my parents split up.

Just to ask, I understand the term 'Next Generation' is unofficial by Hotpoint, so we're the previous models actually known as the New Generations? Sorry I'm asking so much, I'm just curious about these terms.

Those 800 spin 9525's were absilutely everywhere when I was a kid! That pic of the 9526 is fantastic, I've never seen a 95 series looking so white.

@Brandon: Yes Hotpoint officially called the earlier 95 series the "New Generation". This was due to an entire redesign of the range and a new factory having to be built. Hotpoint probably wanted to take advantage of this to market their machines so "New Generation" was coined.

Once again Paul this is a fantastic thread and that kitchen in the last picture is stunning!

95 Series

Hi James, thank you that cleared up a bit of confusion there.

Thought I would share this picture of me in front of my Auntie Kate & Uncle Gary's Hotpoint 9526(P) Electronic 800 De Luxe. What is iconic about this picture, this was their previous house in Kinmel Bay, North Wales in which they were just down the road from the Hotpoint factory.

This machine was later passed on to my Nanny & Grandad Carroll (dad's side) who sadly passed away in 2003/2004. Alas the machine also went.
One thing I noticed, it has the more common 'missing bodystrips' virus that many flush door 95s tend to suffer. Not sure why.

Note to self...the only time you will ever find me in front of one of these (because it's off), otherwise to this day I am still terrified of the sound they make when going into spin, I know it sounds really silly, but oh well, fond memories.

You mention missing side strips on your family 9526 - From the 95X6 models onwards, I think hotpoint dropped the sidestrips, but retained the lid strips through to the Aquaruis models. The lid strips went with the Aquarius Ultra models.

May 90 sees a tweak with the range, with the variable model now offering 1200rpm, up from the previous 1000 ...

with the AQUARIUS ULTRA version following in September 1993. This picture shows off the AQ-ULTRA features better than previous - smooth fascia finish, smooth finish fully trimmed lid and new style dial ....

9550 Microtronic De Luxe L.E

New Generation alert! Here is the 9550, the updated 95842 introduced in March 1985, but with a time delay function. This feature was introduced, following pressure applied from the electricity board shops.
This was one of the very late new generation machines, numbered within the new range model system.

p.s re New and Next Generation - the New Generaion was a formal slogan employed by Hotpoint.
The term Next Generation is purely a Discuss O Mat name, applied to the follow on range and sounds a lot better than the original moniker we applied to them all those years ago - anyone remember the 'New New Gens'

9551 Microtronic 1000 De Luxe

With Hotpoint carelessly using the 9550 for a non-Next Generation machine, the new Microtronic took up the next available model number 9551. Introduced in June 1986, this is the possibly the rarest core range Next Generation model washing machine - put it this way ..... this is the only image I have of the 9551 ..... I have never seen one in the flesh and I have never seen one on ebay. If you see a 9551 - gerrit saved!

9554 MICROTRONIC 1000 DE LUXE

April 88 - I don't know about you, but from the 9551 onwards, the Microtronic's fascia produces a rather plain looking machine. Definitely feels like a case of no longer TOTR :-(
