(I thought I posted this last night but I can't find the post)

My Ultrawash was making an intermittent squeeling kind of noise last night when I was running it. I kept looking outside because I thought it was a car's power steering belt somewhere. Does this mean the pump bearing is failing?

I am not adept enough to repair this myself, and budget is tight. So if this is starting to bite the dust, I'll need recommendations on a BOL/MOL machine <$450. Don't care about noise or plastic tub, my one quirk is that I don't like silverware in the door.

Mine does that every so often. It sometimes will make the noise on the drain cycle as the pump and motor are winding down.

I have not seen any signs of moisture and like I said I hear it once in a while.

Do you hear the noise consistantly ?

Its only intermittent, during the spray cycle. I've run two loads since I first heard it, and it didn't do it- so maybe it's just a fluke?

Strange squealing noise

This is usually caused by the pump seal and is not immediate cause for concern. But you may be able to reduce or eliminate this sound by trying one or more of the following suggestions. Use a little detergent in the open pre-wash cup if you are not doing so, use less detergent in general, use a shorter cycle, put the dishes in with more food soil still on them, especially oils and if all else fails try adding a few table spoons of Bon-Ami cleanser to the machine when you start it for a few loads to re-hone the seal.

Noise

Ultrawash is the Kenmore branded, right? My Mom has one. I have a similar Whirlpool dishwasher, and I think the guts are the same for the most part. The only difference between the two that I've seen is that mine has an additional jet on the bottom of the top wash arm. There's one on each end shooting down which I think are intended to drive the arm (cause it to rotate). Mine has an additional jet that seems to be directed opposite the rotation.

Anyway, mine is the basic Whirlpool electronic model, no timer knob, short tub. It's relatively new, (the last short tub they produced, I think), and once in a blue-moon I get a bit of a screeching noise, usually during drain. I was concerned at first, but it's not been an issue.

One of my local sail buddies, Rick, just had me check theirs out making the same noises during drain. I turned the convertable upside down and the pieces that were causing the noise fell. One was a needle an the others were a dime and a penny??? It now runs quietly.Best dishwashers from Sears.
