2 weeks back Thursday I waited days for the salesman to send me a quote on installing a new Mitsubishi or Fujitsu mini split. These were the people who installed and maintained my now defunct unit. I followed up on Friday afternoon to voice mail. No quote on Monday. On Tuesday he replied via email saying they were very busy on quotes blah blah blah.  So I immediately called the company that has helped me with my boiler a couple of times.  As I was explaining to the co-owner he said "why don't I just come over now and have a look" and he was here in 20 minutes.  He gave me a few options and suggested a Carrier heat/pump model being as it was only $200 more than a cool only unit and that he would send me quotes by the morning, which he did. I said I'd go with the 2.5 ton heat pump because if something goes wrong with the boiler I'll at least have some heat (hopefully) until that gets fixed.  Only thing was is that they have the condenser in stock but will have to order the evap unit but it should be here this week and they can come and install it.. I'm not betting on it with my luck but you never know.  Oh and the Carrier quote was $1200. less than the Mitsu quote.    Fingers crossed

Hey Pete,

Just be wary of the Carrier Splits. I'm not sure whether they're any better in the US/Canada, but over here they're cheap for a reason.

Generally Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Daikin and Panasonic are top tier

Then everything else is cheaper and lower quality.

Just an opinion before you sign on the line. Maybe in your neck of the woods, they're still relatively locally managed and just a smaller brother to the ducted systems.

Cheers

Nathan

Hard to say, I'll just have to take my chances.  I didn't have good luck with the Mitsubishi at a premium cost nor did I have good luck with those KA dishwashers, maybe going cheaper will be the ticket this time.  Some neighbors have had lower cost branded central a/c's installed and aren't having any problems so who knows anymore

Hallelujah

My new mini split was installed today. It took the guys 6 hours to remove the old one and put in the new one. I don't recall it taking near that long last time . It's not a straight thru the wall install.. It enters in my rek room , across to the furnace room about 14 ft, hangs a left for about 12 feet, then shoots upward about 15 feet, maybe more. Anyways, it's quiet and had the house and humidity way down in 30 minutes or so. One thing I do like about it compared to the Mitsu is that it can disperse the air a little bit upward whereas the Mitsu was barely horizontal.. this will help because it's cooling a cathedral type ceiling.
