I drove 120 miles round trip to pick up this Maytag Neptune MDE5500AYW dryer from the owner whose matching Neptune washer had terminal failure recently who ended up buying a matching Whirlpool set.

It is an interesting pair for my 1987 Maytag A512 washer.

One thing I really like about this dryer is the cool down cycle during the last 5 minutes of drying time, I don't think any of my previous dryers had this feature.

An interesting set of circumstances led me to a Craigslist seller that was offering a matching Neptune MAH5500BWW for $50 this past weekend.

When I asked him over email if there was anything wrong with it, he replied that there wasn't and it that it was an extra washer that he wasn't using.

For $50, it was worth a look.

When I got there, he told me that he had just moved into the house and the previous occupants had left their Neptune set. He had his own washer/dryer set already so he was selling the Neptunes. I paid the man his $50 and brought the washer home.

The door seal was intact but completely covered in mildew. I bought a new seal which was delivered and installed this morning.

My first ever matching set!

Congratulations on your completing your Neptune set! They look very sharp together. Is this your first front-loader? I've been a big fan of the format since 1987.

Our member Yogitunes (Martin) is a front-loading Neptune enthusiast. You can see part of his collection of them in the Super (Yellow) Forum in Thread #65746 called Laundry: How Many Loads Per Week In Your Household. Scroll way down to Reply #54 to see the photo he posted.

From 2004-2015, I had two Electrolux-built FLs (the first one was a Frigidaire, the 2nd one was a Kenmore).

Parts from the first unit kept the 2nd unit going until this past January when the spider bracket failed and I opted to wash my hands clean of Frigemores altogether.

I've seen Martin's Neptune collection, it's very niiice.

My laundry area can realistically only fit one washer and dryer, though I should probably find space for my Maytag A712 (which began life as an A512).

"@yogitunes,

Where did you source the doors with the glass inserts?"

He hasn't posted in a few years. They are from commercial washers, generally from laundromats, probably headed to the scrapper.

"He hasn't posted in a few years."

I've been on here off and on since 2015, but didn't become what I would call regularly active until 2022, and I noticed by that point Martin/yogitunes had largely vanished from the forum. I hope he's ok.

Since I got in touch with Agiflow/Pat awhile back, he’s doing fine. Just been busy with life, posts from time to time on some of the Facebook groups, though.

Think some people just take breaks from time to time from forums and social media since it can be mentally taxing after awhile. Usually do the same thing myself when life gets busy or interesting topics and discussions come to a stand still.

I still miss our old Neptune set, I probably could've had both of the machines fixed. And I already miss my grandfather's Neptune we just had replaced, according to my uncle it didn't survive from the flood. The only major appliance that did survive other than the Kenmore vacuum was the GE fridge, but the insurance already paid for a new fridge and the old one will now be used for out in the garage.
