Hi, all.

Here we go again. I apologize for asking almost exactly the same question again.
The only difference is, instead of Corning Ware bakeware, the marks are on Corelle Vitrelle plates; "Payden" pattern, in case you're curious.
I've never seen so many utensil marks on plates! We joked that they look like they were previously owned by Edward Scissorhands.
So far, I've hit one plate with Bon Ami, in bar form. I started there, because of its reputation for not scratching. It took some of it off, but it's still noticeable. I've watched some videos, but none that I found were specifically utensil marks on Corelle. And, in those videos, people always seem to point out that it doesn't take a lot of effort. You just sort of gently rub the surface.
I put quite a bit of "elbow grease" into it. Well, for me anyway.
I don't want to cause fine scratches and do more damage by trying to clean them up. And I don't imagine Vitrelle is as tough as the Pyroceram of Corning.
I would imagine that someone here has faced this problem before. I don't know if I should just keep going with the Bon Ami; either applying more pressure, or just repeated attempts, or if I should try a slightly more aggressive cleanser. Again, I'm trying not to do more harm than good.
Thank you again

Barry

Barry,

Try using a Mr. Clean Eraser, they won’t scratch and they take the marks off of just about any surface.  Also, I still swear by Barkeepers Friend for removing makes like this.  It doesn’t scratch and works on any hard surface

Hi, Eddie!
Thank you so much. That's the one product that I keep forgetting about for some reason. (Magic eraser)
I think we even have some on hand. If not, I'm definitely putting them on the shopping list!

Metal marks on ceramic surfaces, etc.

There are many marks that get on ceramic surfaces that there is just no way to remove don’t knock yourself out if it doesn’t come off easily, that’s just the way it’s going to be, if you can’t stand eating off of it, use it under a plant.

The same thing happens with ceramic cooktops especially the white ones. They get many marks on them that there’s absolutely no way to remove. Believe me we’ve tried and tried.

When buying used corning, etc. don’t buy stuff with gray marks on it it’s not likely to come off, especially scratch marks on the inside of the dish or on the surface of it.

Hi, John.

Thank you for that. It's discouraging to hear, but very good to know that some marks simply will not come off.
I'm going to try a couple more products on these plates. But, if I can't get them to a point where I'd be comfortable setting them before guests, I'll probably donate them to a local thrift store.
I guess I'll have to be more selective about my second-hand purchases from now on. I think I got a little over confident, because the first piece I bought looked pretty bad, and I bought it cheap, just to see what I could do with it. That one cleaned up like new, with surprisingly little effort.
What I'm hearing and learning is that it's a chance you take. Some may clean up and look perfect, some won't.

John,
That's not a bad idea!

Lawrence,
Thank you. Yes. I have a couple of different cream polishes on hand too.
I was throwing everything at my Corning casserole from my first post. I eventually got that one presentable.
My concern this time around, was that maybe some products that won't scratch Pyroceram might scratch these plates. But, I'll try a couple/few more things before throwing in the towel.

You could try some of Mother's California Gold products.
I use the chrome polish to clean silver plate. Works great, doesn't stink and isn't toxic.
I called Mothers and asked first. They put me thru to lab. They didn't see why it wouldn't work. If it doesn't work on your plates you can have a great looking car.

Hey, Brian.

Yup. I have some of their polish too. I always heard such good things about it, but I never tried it until fairly recently, when I was trying to get something resembling a shine on a Kirby vacuum that I got for free. It did a pretty good job. Especially, considering I was doing it by hand.
