I was cleaning out some stuff and found this very cool vintage Air-Way and since so many here are into vintage vacs thought you might find it interesting.

It is dated March 1932 from Good Housekeeping magazine. I forgot that Air-Way was also in Toronto and London. How the mighty have fallen!

Pillow Need Fluffing?

Just get out your Air-Way and you can be, "changing and renovating" your feathers.

Interesting use of a vacuum cleaner. How long would it take to really get those feathers out of the motor housing and fan?

Think I may leave the pillow flat for a while.

Amazing Air-Way!

Charlie:

Say *OY* to that infectious household dirt!

That was the year my mom was born, but I can't imagine old-fashioned German grandmother using this *luxury* appliance! Love the bag...reminds me of a pillow; complete with ticking!

Great Ad!1-love the idea of using the Air-Way to "restuff" pillows-didn't they have that on old Hoover ads? This is almost related to "freshening" pillows and cushions today with a DTD canister vac-Filter Queen shows that in their demos-They put the cushions in a large plastic bag-use the vac to suck out the air from the bag and cushiosn.than you put the hose on the blower side of the vac blowing "fresh air" into them.Warning-if you do this with a Rainbow vac-DO NOT TURN IT OFF-put the hose on the vacs blow port after sucking out the air from the "airo-fresh" bag and blow "water filtered" air back into your cushions or pillows. If you turn the Rainbow off with the Pillows air sucked out-they will suck the water out of the Rainbow.a Rainbow salesman told me about this-was embarrasing for him.You don't have that worry with the FQ.I have also done this with a TriStar as well the prospect liked the way it "freshened" her cushions from her sofa.

OOPS!

Oh geez....I really feel like an idiot! Those really were pillows! LOL What will they think of next?

Who has fluff in her head

I`ve never thought of flufing pillow`s like that. I`m afraid I would get feathers and down everywhere or get it bakwards and suck all the feathers out!:)

fluffing pillows...

Probably yes, although who does that stuff these days??
Hoover also shwed fluffing pillows in their owners manuals back in the 1920's.

I would bet you could do the "pillow stuffing" and fluffing with an old Kirby-With "G" type machines they have "double" interlocks-you need to have the bag or shampoo tank attached to the discharge for the machine to run. Do they use "loose" stuffing in pillows and cushions anymore?

I saw a Hoover ad/manual on eBay (for a 541 or 543 I believe), and they showed the hose connected to the exhaust (weren't all early Hoover tools like this, you couldn't hook them up to the suction port?) fluffing up a pillow!

Right, and if you turn the page, there's a picture of Mrs. Jones looking like a giant chicken all covered with feathers, and a blizzard of feathers in the air, and the caption says "Ha ha, just kidding!"

Meanwhile, Mr. Oreck looks on and goes "Eeek! Nasty dust mites! You forgot about the dirt that's stuck to the inside of the suction tube! Now it's in your pillow and you're going to sleep on *that*?!"

And speaking of fluffing things up, how many of you remember:

"Oh you need Fluff! Fluff! Fluff! to make a Fluffernutter
Marshmallow Fluff! And lots of peanut butter!"
