I believe that they are all the same. But I’m not 100% sure. But I’m pretty sure all the balls will fit up tell Maytag started using amanas design. Then they started using a completely different style of hinge all together.
Jason is spot on - the nylon balls used on the ball hinged Maytag lids are the same through the end of the helical drive Maytags. The first instance of the nylon ball hinge was on the 1959 142 revised one piece lid, that then became the A700 and TOL 160/A900. The first of the highlanders to go away from the steel hinge to the ball hinge was on the 02 series in 1964.
It’s fine. I would have replied sooner myself but my emails won’t send. No matter what I try my email just won’t work. But I am going to try to get those Ball hinges mailed Out today for you.
Yes. And unfortunately I don’t have anything like that. I’m actually looking for one myself. The one on my dryer is cracking and some chunks are starting to fall off.
I managed to score a gasket for a DE806 and although different it seems to be working well, I would be happier with the original but I guess it will have to do. Aside from being the wrong gasket the clothes are still dry in usually 30 min or so.
They are a royal pain to refit them back in. My 511 went way out of balance once, I wasnt there quick enough to shut it off and it popped those balls out with the lid open. I was not happy by the time I FINALLY got them to seat in and am not touching them ever again
Here's a trick I figured out years ago installing these ball hinges.
Put a dab of Petroleum Jelly/Vaseline on the indent of the lid cover to help hold the ball in place. This will be the pivoting area. I'm right handed so this goes on the left ball divot of the cover. Smear a very thin layer of PJ/Vaseline on the opposite side of the top cover (not the lid cover) divot working your way out a few inches. This will help the ball slide into place. Keep the lid low and push it back until it pops into place.
When these balls get old, they like shatter if put under too much stress. A little Petroleum Jelly helps hold the ball in place on one end and glide the other into place using much less effort.
My dad used to put them in boiling water, to soften them a bit.
I just hold the lid at a 45 degree or so angle, put one of them in place, get the second one started, and smack the lid on the side that needs to go , with the palm of your hand.
