And that's just exactly how I take it - for fun. This is neat, especially since we are all in agreement (well, that is a good way to start a flame war. Especially since most of us are in agreement that, except for KA and some Kenwood, there's nothing good left on the American mixer market).

I don't recall an axe-grinding attachment for any of the mixers, tho' Kirby had one, I do believe...

Am watering the plants for a friend who's whom in Italy this week. She told me on the phone just now, I might try her ancient mixer while at her place. Neither of us can remember the brand, hope it's not Krups but 1950's Italian...

Sunbeam AND KA had a can opener attachment - probably just about everybody else has one too (I'm sure HB does). We'll have to have a race between them all to see who can open their can of worms faster

Krups

Well, so much for that one. It's a Krups. The domestic appliance market in Italy has some neat attachments, unsurprisingly.

One of the best vintage (if only just) mixers I have had here was from the GDR - they had two levels of quality, domestic and export. Have to say, my little Rotring did quite well, even on fairly heavy doughs.

I was so disgusted by the Sunbeams I'd seen in the last years for sale in the US, I wonder if maybe the Australian market is getting a higher level of quality?

The Breville Power Wizz is a reasonable machine for the money and whilst still 'plastic' at least looks and feels like a 'proper' mixmaster...I'd rather have it than the cheaper Sunbeams....

Sunbeam and Hamilton Beach

I've got mixers from both my Grandmothers. The Sunbeam was a present to my one grandmother in 1932. The Hamilton Beach (in chrome) was a gift to my grandmother from her mother around 1955. Both are on my counter top and both are in use frequently. Does anyone have the jade-ite bowls for the Sunbeam? I have the yellow model, but the bowls were broken many years ago.

I'm Louis from the VCCC....

I like all of my mixers and again, it all depends on what you are making which for me determines which mixer I will use. Largely though for me, the real determining factor ends up being my mood! LOL I

I do like my HB Eclectics in black. It competes with the KA and IMHO, gives more value for the money! You can pick these up a Kohl's for about $79- and if you get a coupon for 20% or 30% you just can't beat the value! The motor is bigger (400 Watts) and the bowl has a handle. It even comes with the pouring shield.

The Sunbeam Heritage series are also good! The dual motor version (one for the actual mixer and one for the bowl) is very noisy and I think it could have been better thought out. Perhaps they could have put sound dampening material in the neck because it does sound like a table-top cement mixer!

The HB above is the same mixer that is sold here as a Kenwood Patissier. They retail here for around AUD$399...which is think is a lot when I can get a Kenwood Chef for not too much more...

They did well in the Choice test I posted above though...

Yep - that's the same mixer - takes the same bowls too. The bowls pop up frequently on ebay - thy will say "General Mills" on the bottom of them. You'd have a bear of a time (you'll pardon the pun) getting beaters for it, though.

There is one near me at an antique shop.Its in perfect shape,I kinda thought it was a westinghouse,it looks like something they would design.I think I will get it.I must have 15 or so mixers no later than 1957.I found one with the orig tags on it 1940 brand new never used so clean.It seems the early mixers like sunbeam used some sort of alkalyd paint on them.As They age the paint flakes and wont take wax very well.The tan ones seem the worst.Thanks Bobby

Betty Crocker Mixer

Interesting how that mixer has Hamilton Beach and Sunbeam elements. It contained a Hamilton Beach motor, beaters has Sunbeam's shafts, bowls fit a Sunbeam turntable, bowls made by Pyrex like HB. The mixer had the hidden bowl control the adjust for the different size bowls. The timer used by Hamilton Beach after the BC mixer was discontinued (1956). The juicer attachment us just like a HB model G and the power unit is styled after the HB power unit that attaches to the stand like that of late model G, it had a bolt and knurled screw to secure the power unit to the mixer motor. How HB thought that arrangment safe for their own mixers, I do not understand! Also both beaters had the metal contact buttons for turning the bowls, and they scratch the bowls bottoms but they are sure well constructed!
