Jemima of course and my Sunbeam Waffle Baker.
Note the new old Sunbeam coffeemaster conventiently in view.. LOL.
And the blue GE mixer I had to try before it heads to a new home south. Need that new address you know who.

Sunday Morning Breakfast

Waffles, waffles, waffles!

Nothing beats homemade waffles, and am not talking about those frozen frisbee things either! *LOL* Those southern "full" breakfasts, with waffles or pancakes, grits, bacon, ham steaks, eggs, toast and of course orange juice. Sadly everyone is watching their cholesteral to eat such breakfasts anymore.

Buttermilk, pecan, buckwheat, all with REAL maple syrup. Though my brothers favoured the other types, you now the stuff that has never been any where near Vermont or a maple tree. *LOL*

Nice Pete

Seeing all those wonderful Sunbeams together in one place is a beautiful sight. Are some of these appliances new finds? For some strange reason, you don't see many of the smaller Sunbeam waffle bakers in my neck of the woods.

Now I'm hungry.

Well then

Congratulations. That's one of my favorite coffee pot designs. Great score. And the waffle iron was a great score as well. I'd say you had a pretty good day!

More Sunbeam Stuff

Well, since that Sunbeam Showcase thread is archived, here's my Sunbeam Electric Frypan. This thing is really heavy and meant to last several lifetimes. Later year versions were available with turquoise and pink plastic as alternatives to the black. Obviously, I'd prefer the turquoise, but I was never lucky enough to come across one in nice shape.

These are some pictures I took when I still had the digital camera.

Sunbeam frypan

I had one of those frypans, but mine had a square glass window in the lid. It worked great, but I gave it away since it was not immersible and therefore a pain to clean.

My Model 12s

Here are my Mixmaster model 12s. The model 12s are the only Mixmasters that interest me. In the pictures, there are 2 turquoise ones and 2 Chrome ones. This model was also available in white, turquoise, pink, and yellow. I had a white one but either misplaced it or sold it off. It's pretty bad when you can misplace a Mixmaster.

Since this picture was taken, I was able to find a chrome bowl set and a white bowl set, which means that all my Mixmaters now have a set of bowls to accompany them.

Yes, it is

That's a GE Can Opener in the background. And you're right about the Sunbeam looking like a GE. I have the GE you're talking about which has a great look to it.

It's been so long since I've had homemade waffles...

Throw some Canadian bacon in the electric skillet. I'll be over for breakfast shortly.

I have the GE waffler as well but I'm not sure if somethings wrong with the thermostat, last time I used it it didn't seem to bake fully, unless I didn't give it enough time to warm up. The Sunbeam seems much faster.
I have the one yellow Model 12 but still looking for the yellow bowls. Today at the flea market someone was selling a beat up Kenwood Chef A500 like mine, I didn't want the whole machine just that missing dough hook and I scored that, whew.

Nothing beats fresh, hot, buckwheat waffles with "REAL" WI maple syrup. My great-uncle & aunt started cooking maple syrup in the late '30's for extra income. Now almost 70 yrs. later their grandson cooks and sells it for a living. I grew up on peanut butter & maple syrup sandwiches. Don't knock it until you try it!

Hi Tim, Buckwheat waffles sound great, is that a mix or do you have a recipe to share?? Boy that syrup sounds good too. Terry

Thanks for the information, I will look for something like this next time I shop. Sure sounds good. Terry

Re: Great/Simple Waffle Recipe:

I finally found my Families great/simple Waffle Recipe and I wanted to share it with everyone else. We've always used one of the Round Waffle Cookers, but my Brother has a Square one that also is the Sandwich Griller as well, enjoy.

Peace and Happy Waffle Baking and Eating, Steve

Waffle Recipe:

1-1/2 Cups Flour {Wheat or White}
3-teaspoons Baking Powder
1/2-teaspoon Salt
1/4-teaspoon Baking Soda
2-teaspoons Sugar
3-Tablespoons Oil
2-Eggs
1-Cup Buttermilk
1-teaspoon Vanilla
Cinnamon {optional/to taste}

All of my Waffle Bakers are Pre-Non-Stick, so I use some Mazzola, Pam or Store Generic Spray to Coat the Grids.

Hmmm

I had never heard of putting vanilla in waffle or pancake batter until a friend of mine mentioned it. I thought she had invented the concept.

And now here's Steve's recipe with vanilla. Is this standard? Did I just miss something?

In my house, pancakes and waffles were always made with Bisquick.

Steve,,,this recipe sounds GREAT. I have a pre-nonstick iron and I really have to spray the heck outta that thing to prevent sticking. Ken bought me a non-stick and I just can not use it..I like the old one..imagine that.

I love homemade waffles and have a couple of beautiful Sunbeam irons but rarely go to the trouble to make them. I don't know if the recipie I used called for vanilla, but it sure sounds good. I put a bit of vanilla in my french toast batter. Has anyone/everyone noticed the price of vanilla has come way down? I'm loving it - and stocking up on the Madagascar Vanilla from William's Sonoma.

The first time I used one of my Sunbeam irons was a year ago August when Robert, Jon, Scott and Terry were here for a visit. The first waffle stuck to the grids and ripped to shreds when I tried to pull it apart. Everyone suddenly got skinny on me and we gave up!

Re: Homemade -vs- Bisquick:

Well Veg-O-Matic, {et-al} I only use Bisquick for Drop Biscuits, sometimes Pancakes {aka: Hotcakes, Flapjacks, American Tortillias} and Coffee Cake {on the Bisquick Package} but all of my Homemade Waffles are always made with the Family Recipe.

"BTW" the Vanilla has been in the Recipe for quit a long time now, through the Pass-Down of the Recipe to others. Someone in the Family a long time ago, called them "Awful Waffles" and it has stuck with the rest of us, through the years and Families. It sounds like someone ended up with "Awful Waffles" a while back, with their experience, especially with Company visiting as well.

Peace and Happy Waffle Making, Steve

Greg I am glad to hear that the price of vanilla is coming down. It was up to almost 30 dollars a bottle at William Sonoma a while back. I remember the trouble with the waffle iron, we may just have to give that another try. Terry

sticking waffles

VERY critical that the grids on vintage waffle irons be well greased AND that there's oil in the batter

"VERY critical that the grids on vintage waffle irons be well greased AND that there's oil in the batter."

That is exactly the reason why when I wrote about using a Vintage Waffle Cooker, that I mentioned about making sure that you use the suggested amount of Oil in the Batter and using a Cooking Spray {PAM or Mazzola, etc} on the Grids, before pouring the Batter, so the Waffles wouldn't stick to the Grids.

The

were absolutely terrific. I made a batch for supper and they were so nice, light and fluffy. I did make one change though, I substituted sour milk for the buttermilk as I didn't have any in the house. You couldn't tell the difference IMO.
