The drum is perfect.
How do you wash? What temps and detergents?
As I said above, mostly at 40°C, sometimes hotter (usually not more than 60°C), with powder detergent, and very infrequently use liquid when washing wool jumpers etc. In this machine I've mostly used Surf bio powder (Unilever's budget offering) which has oxygen bleach (apparently perborate at that time), but without the TAED, very occasionally Daz (no oxygen bleach, but did prefer the milder smell), depending on what was on offer - discounts stores regularly have one or both on offer if you buy 2 or 3 extra large boxes.
At the time I took it apart, I was using the recommended dosage for hard water, heavy soil, and a 6 - 8 kg capacity machine. Probably at least 180ml, likely a bit more. These days I usually use a bit less for moderate soil, as I was being heavy handed. I used to overdo the fabric conditioner by quite a bit too!
I also descale the thing once a year, 90°C cotton cycle and a large scoop of anhydrous citric acid, although I only started about 3 years in when the second element failed (never needed to with previous machines).
