My Maytag Atlantis has recently started bubbling just a tiny bit from somewhere under the agitator, I haven't watched it that closely. I just know you can hear and see tiny little bubbles making their way up to the tub when it first starts to fill. It may have been doing this for a while and I just did not notice. It only does this once for about 5-10 seconds. It does not continue doing so as the tub fills higher with water, does this sound like the tub seal could be going bad or should I not be worried? Its not leaking water. Not under the tub seal at least. Could it be leaking into the transmission?

Also, another strange thing I noticed, there was a tiny bit of rusty-colored droplets of oil on the transmission shaft directly below the tub seal. I know it was a bit rusty in that spot when I bought it 3 years ago, but that oil/grease was not there. There is no oil leaking from the lower transmission seal, and no oil stains on my clothes, or splatter inside the cabinet, yet. I am assuming its still fine to use I just find these 2 issues a bit odd. No unusual noises. Still spins quietly.

I am expecting something major to happen in the next 3-5 years but was hoping to get a little longer out of it before a big repair considering its condition when I bought it. I have had many of these washers before this, all in worse condition, and never had a tub seal fail, so I wouldn't know what signs to look for. I don't believe I've ever seen the oil on the shaft like that before though. I've only ever seen the bottom transmission seal go, where large amounts of oil makes its way into the brake, bottom of the machine, etc and its pretty noticeable.

Cannot speak for all

But when my Whirlpool portable was sending bubbles from under agitator it was deemed a tub seal issue. Happily things hadn't gone very far and there wasn't damage that couldn't be fixed by swapping out affected parts.

Didn't notice the bubbles at first, but did see water on floor under machine after use and wheeled back to cubby. That was the tip off.
