Cool

I am glad I would like to let it run more I may just load it up with all my hurricane water and let it run. The thermostat works great. I would rather have this fridge in my kitchen than my side by side stainless frigidaire.

Not sure what you mean by wanting it to run longer. The old Westies that I'm familiar with didn't run all that long at a time. I presume that when you plug it in after it's been sitting for a while not running, that it runs for a decent period of time before getting the entire cabinet cooled down. Not running much is a good thing. It means the gaskets are sealing and that there no problems with the mechanical systems.

I would not mess with this thing if it's working fine.

Thanks, Sandy. That makes more sense than any of the other thoughts I'd had about how to replace it!

And appliances4me, it's true, the compressors don't run all that much, and our old '49 uses less electricity than an early 90s vintage clunker we've had to use for awhile. Only negative to using one of these old babies is the defrosting.

thanks

I used to run it all the time and I never ever had to defrost it. It just seals so well. Buy running I meant the longjevity of it.

As long as it's not under stress like triple digit temps you should be able to run that fridge for a long time. Like I stated above, the handle tore off ours probably 20 years before the compressor finally gave up during a serious heat wave.
