mine is#0122430

if you ask me i think Hoover shoulda had a whole series of Convertibles with the cafe au lait (as i call it) colored base. is it me or does the color have a hint of blush to it? the darker cord/bumper/handle bootie accents are to die for! you mention the "bugs" being solved, you speak like a TRUE Hoover loyalist. i think the bag holder/lever weakens the handle too much and WHAT was hoover thinking when they devised the foreskin-style bag retainer?? is the one on your NIB 1060 still soft? David

Grandma's...

New for Christmas in 1967, making me 3 1/2 when I was purchased. My parents bought this for grandma to use on the new carpeting she got that year. They paid $79.95 for the cleaner and $20 for the deluxe tools of which the box was never opened.
Grandma had a Hoover model 28 and a Lux XXX, the 1060 got put away in the closet and was used very little up til about 1982 when I finally was given the 28.
Grandma passed away in 1986, the 1060 has been mine ever since. I've used it, enjoyed it, and treasured it.
This one is from early in the run, 49,000 and some.

Glam shot

For this thing being in my possession for almost 20 years, and being used on and off by me and my mother, its still in vert sweet shape!

are you in a picture taking mood?

cause i wouldnt mind being showered with a flurry of 1070 pics. do you have the early "heavy duty" 900 models? youve gotten me all worked up jeff.

Camera charging

I'll take a couple of 1070 shots after a shower and you explain what heavy duty 900 series is...

900 series LOL

I guess it IS quite a jump from the hoover 1060 to the 1930s Hoover heavy duty models, isnt it? i have a thing for commercial type models i guess. did you ever see the NIB Hoover Guardsman model i eBayed a while back? i saw yours, and noticed their bags where different than the one on mine. David

ok I get it now

I don't have any of the old 900 series, my collection goes back only to model 913.

Here's one just for fun, models 589, 719, 1070 and 1020, the 1969 A and B line Convertibles.

Guardsman U4313

This is from about 1980-82, its the only one I have ever seen with the "Hoover Commercial" on the bag

Guardsman U7033

The first Guardsman cleaner, and the first cleaner to have a handle bail switch since model 31.

The bag is the same as used on the 334/344 Commercial Convertibles.

Vintage 1975-76

Models 1020 and 1070

69-71

First A line cleaners with the 4 position height adjustment.

yes the 1070 has the wrong lens on it. I have the original, just need to install it!

uhhhh you asked for this

WOOF!!!

in all seriousness he's not all that crazy about the vacuums, although as a puppy he LOVED to run between the cleaners and have me chase him around.
Today he tolerates when I vacuum, and usually parks himself at the top of the stairs when I vacuum the LR/DR. All bets are off though if there's a hose involved, he hides in my bedroom closet!

AND

when did Hoover start using those NASTY six-blade fans in the Guardsman? as soon as i got mine i put a metal one in it, AND removed the high speed actuator.

nice...

and you have a later model 31 with a white base and narrow bag... very cool, there are not many of those!

and another

i also have some eurekas in storage. you will see the hoover concept i have on ebay now loitering in the background.

very nice

and your 1060 was made somewhere in the middle of the run. The 1060 is I think the only Convertible to be found with 3 possible variations of the vinyl bag.

The first bag is dark brown with the large "HOOVER" down the front(the very first 1060's even had "Convertible" on the bag.

The second variation is what you have, dark brown, kinda shiny vinyl, with the smaller square "HOOVER"

Bag number 3 is what I have on my NIB 1060, medium brown. Gives the cleaner a whole different look from the dark brown bag.

The official colors of the 1060 are Autumn Gold with seal griege medium and deep.

Man oh Man

What a collection! I love those old convertibles. My grandmother had a green on without a headlight in the 1980's. Her's had the attachments that went on the bottom of the machine though. When did Hoover stop using the type of attachment that plugged into the vacuum? I also worked in a department store in the 1980's. We had Hoover commercial cleaners with the plastic dirt cup. It cleaned well, but was so dirty to empty and I remember it being rather noisy too. We upgraded in the 1990's to another Hoover commercial that had a magnet on the front to collect metal items before they were impelled. It wasn't as noisy, but was still a pain to empty each time. We also had a GE Swiveltop and a bagged Hoover convertible that I found very fun to use. And then there was the Electrolux XXX that was so quiet and powerful. Didn't mean to ramble. Man those were the days! Tim
