What happened to the Maytag top load TL washer with the rotating "disc agitators"?? Are they still in production or have they been pulled?

Does anyone have one? And does anyone have any video of it in operation??

There were several incidences with this model damaging clothing. Since Maytag is still a little "gun shy" from the class action settlement regarding their first generation Neptune machines, they yanked the plug on this little gem.

I have one...they're a little different. Some things you just can't wash in it. The lid locks when you start the cycle so I have never seen it operate other than when a tech was working on it he lifted the upper cover while it was washing.

Maytag TL Neptune - Weird concept

I thought that was the toploader Neptune. It didn't look promising to me. Pity, I wonder if the departure from their workhorse machines, and basic design is what contributed to the aquisition by WP, (ugh ugh ugh!). Just today I called a Maytag dealer and found I could still get the only Dependable Care washer that's still in the channel for $599.00 I'm tempted to spend it and replace my newly purchased WP TL. I miss my old Maytag!

Anyway, the other weird concept to me was the Calypso washer, which I think was WP and Kenmore. Not quite like the Cabrio. Does anyone have video of the Calypso?

Wow, that update must have gone up at the same time I was posting. It looks like a Kitchen-Aid mixer kneading bread dough. I also kind-of expected that the tub would also alternate back and forth a bit.

How well does this machine rinse?

This little video link has nothing to do with washers... but about one company (AT&T) owning everything... maybe it's the same as WP taking over Maytag?? If you haven't seen it, it's quite funny none the less....

The Neptune TL in the video was one I found sitting behind Lowes one day, worked perfectly. It was missing the model/serial tag so I'm sure it was credited back for some reason. The washer holds a huge load - more than you'd expect and in fact, it washes much better when loaded full than with small loads. It does a great job cleaning but trips and falls when the rinses start - not very impressive at all. The washer has trouble balancing the load for spin sometimes and between wash & rinses, will sometimes have to give up and skip a spin altogether which impairs it's rinsing ability even more. It was a great idea that might have been a popular choice for a top-loading HE machine if it had more time to "evolve" and get the bugs worked out but alas, Whirlpool swooped in and gobbled up Maytag (saving it from bankruptcy and aquisition by Haier) so this machine is now history. It's a great example of the last completely American design of a top loading washer.

WP buying Maytag was the best thing that could have happened to them. Can you imagine Haier???? I'm sure the chinese will eventually get better at making good washers.
