So, after a largely unsucessful run of ads in different cities within a reasonable driving distance of Montreal or Ogden, I did manage to find something of interest in Albany, NY. After the usual protests and threats, I closed the deal and made arrangements to pick the new 'toy' up on Saturday.
The new toy is a Frigidaire...

It's.... a dishwasher!

It's a lovely Mayfair Pink DWC-DUB automatic dishwasher - my first vintage Frigidaire dishwasher. It is in absolutely beautiful shape outside.

Inside too...

The person I bought it from said it came from someone who seldom used it - and boy, it shows! The tub is near mint - no rust, chips, cracks or stains anywhere!!!

The door is in great shape, too. Note the "no brainer" detergent dispenser! No 'Spots Away' dispenser like the Custom Imperial, but hey, that's why they still make Jet-Dry solid, right??

But the cutlery basket is not the original. I remember as a teenage deliquent having friends whose folks had a 1965 Frigidaire and their complaint was that the cutlery basket was finished.

Under the skirt....

The motor and wiring look like new! Not that I need it but the former owner was kind enough to include a wiring diagram!
So, looks like my GE projects are destined to be done the hard way, while the Frigidaire stuff I have found so far is already working and near mint... Perhaps I need to change my favorite vintage brand on my profile!!

And of course - it works!!!

Not the quietest dishwasher I have ever had, but it works beautifully! I had a minor panic attack when it wouldn't drain when I was playing with it yesterday - fortunately, the problem was due to a connector on the drain solenoid that got disconnected in transit... PHEW!
Can't wait to A: do dishes in it and B: try rigging up some plexiglass for an inside view!!!

Where to put it....

Now, that is the dilemma... I don't want to rip out any of the new cabinets in the kitchen in Ogden. Hubby has a 'no vintage appliances in the apartment in the city' rule and I have to live by that or move...
So, I am thinking of making it into a dishmobile of sorts ; build a cabinet around the machine and top it with the maple cutting board top I took off our 1995 Moffat when I built it in at the current address in Montreal. YAY - one MORE project for the summer... lol
 
It's got the central spray-tube system. I've always been fascinated by them, that's why I just couldn't resist this one!! It is a 1962 model, but the DUB models seemed to start in 1960. And get this, it's a Canadian-made model! DWC in the model number stood for Dishwasher-Canadian. How cool is that, eh?? I repatriated a stray dishwasher!!!
 
So is that "central spray-tube system" that bar under the upper rack? Does it rotate like a Youngstown type (if I got that right...) or other "spray tower" type system?

You got it, Kevin!

The spray tube rotates, sending water around the tub like the Youngstown kitchen machines. I have heard some stories that it is not a great washing system, but with plenty of hot,soft water and a good detergent, I think it will be fine! Racking is going to interesting - like an impeller dishwasher, the rule will be: flat pieces in the lower rack; 'dome' shaped pieces in the upper rack.
Those are all the photos for the moment, alas. Hoping to get some hot water out to the garage and run a load of real dishes this weekend! As always, I will post them!!

I completely understand agreements...We have ours...BUT are there any loop holes?

One of ours (for me) is no rented storage places for collecting washers...This weekend he almost bought a car to which I told him to go ahead and that it would need to be garaged. My willingness caused him to pause and then came the realization - His purchase gave me new latitude. We decided against it as we are in a debt elimination mode and this purchase flies against that sooo, no go...AND Evan has to carefully plan my acquisitions for a while longer...
 
I can still play the 'puppy' card....

If I came home from the local animal shelter with a dog, Hubby would be so happy he'd never notice that the pink dishwasher and the spare turquoise range and refrigerator made it to the city!! lol
Seriously, we had a long talk during our drive to and from Albany and he has agreed to create a wall of washers and a wall of dryers in our basement! The dishwasher collection is still being discussed.. Anyone have Kissinger's cell number?? lol

I have been resisting the puppy in our house...That will buy me some latitude - unfortunately not with appliances...AND I may burn the latitude deciding on the breed...

Can't wait to see your collection all together...Does this mean you will pack the dirty laundry from the city and bring to the Ogden house?
 
I can't wait either! I knew I had that electrical entrace upgraded last summer for a reason... lol
Actually, I do bring things like blankets and sheets down to Ogden sometimes because I can hang them out on the line.
When that new laundry arrangement is done, I am going to have to host a wash-in, I swear!
 
Nice Find!

Back in the early '80s, I lived in an apartment complex that had been built about seventeen or eighteen years before. All appliances were Frigidaire of that vintage, and every apartment had that exact dishwasher in turquoise or yellow.

None of them were in that condition any more, though!
 
P.S.:

As I remember, those dishwashers did a perfectly fine job. Of course, back then, we were grateful to have one at all - we hadn't gotten to the point of being superdiva picky about everything, the way many people are today.

What a beautiful dishwasher! Such a great find indeed!

I have to make comprimises with my collections too. The biggest concession I made was I gave up our guest bedroom (we don't have overnight guests much anyway) so hubby could have a "man cave". Its a total disaster zone now. So, when he gives me too much trouble about another mixer finding its way home, I ask him if he would like any help cleaning up the man cave :) Then I mumble something about "valances" and "shabby chic", and he caves.

Got help me if he ever gets it organized!

A guest room is a fair concession - I do try to be equitable... whenever appliances are not involved...

That is just beautiful. You'll have so much fun with that!

I find that mine washes beautifully, but oddly, mashed potatoes thwart that thing every time. So long as I get rid of the starch-laden items, everything works out fine...

So pretty--and I love the shiny metal filter!
