What is the overall reputation of Haier?

To our esteemed membership: What is the overall reputation of Haier? I'm only interested in their laundry machines but if their other products point to their reputation for quality/usability/integrity, please include those too.

They are inexpensive looking Chinese built junk!! I bought my mother a Maytag branded refrigerator several years ago, built by HAIER, and the compressor died in two years!

mini fridges and small LCD TVs ok

I have a couple small LCD TVs by haier and the performance and quality is actually pretty good-better than many of the other Asian"cheapie"TVs I also have a couple haier mini fridges and by mini fridge standards they are ok.

window a/c

I have had a window a/c unit made by them for three years now and, while somewhat noisy, it works just fine. Not sure I would bank on their larger appliances though.

My mother has a mini-frig that she keeps her insulin and pop in her room.
It has been going for about four year now with no problems. If any complaints the compressor is a little noisy, but it does the job it was intended.

I don't own any Haier appliances

but, 95% of what I hear about them is not very good.  I don't imagine they could all be wrong.  The key to remember is you are buying a low end appliance and while it will do it's job for a while don't expect it to be a top performer or last many years.

Same here... never owned any and perhaps never will!

But I'm really scratching my head here as how can such an appliance manufacturer of apparently ill repute (I've also only heard negative remarks/comments about them) be the number 1 appliance producer on earth for units sold?

Their smaller appliances can be considered throw-away appliances. The larger ones should be avoided at all costs.

My Haier counter top DW at the Casa de Half wide really does a good job. It actually can clean burned on detris

miniature top load washer

a couple years ago,a member on here bought a small top load impeller type washer and liked it a lot-washer meant for small apartment use and worked well for that purpose. cost was~$200.

Their dorm washer was what I was interested in. Think I already talked myself out of it, since technically they aren't allowed in this (shoddy government) building and it's too large to sneak past the office. But that limitation aside, I'd probably buy it.

Practically the only other offering on that scale is the Panda twintub. Entirely plastic, entirely manual, entirely unsupported except the seller has to take a broken one back if bought through Amazon. The Haier is 'not that much' more for a (half) metal automatic which does have (some) support.

What the heck, I thought. All appliances are junk today, and all I want to do is wash one queen sheet at a time. At my age and health and under that load the Haier would probably outlive me.

I have a Haier box fan.  It survived  "Katrina" on an enclosed patio.  It is approx 10 years old and going strong.  To give props it is much quieter than  my newer fans. alr

Haier is some what ok. They have changed a little in the last few years. I bought one of there portable 18 inch dishwashers and it caught on firer no joke at that time they said cut cord and send label we well replace it I did not do that and that dishwasher is no longer made by them.

Washers I I used it till I got a bigger one and then my sister used it and still is using it. It works today like it did when I first got it. Bad thing there new ones no longer play jingle bells when there done.

I also have one of have newer portable washers right now but it is for back up and works fine.

Few tips if going for there portable lots of plumbers tape on the hose parts. The units work fine do not over load and do not on some use very hot water over I think it is 125F

Made in China so I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. They don't have a good reputation and I know someone who had one and it broke down all the time. Stick to a well known brand like Bosch or Miele. You get what you pay for.

Not always, Ben. I'd sooner have a brand new Beko over any of the Zanussi Flexidose machines and the Beko's are far cheaper. They're actually proving to be pretty fantastic machines.

Jon's (lavamat_jon) Mum has actually upgraded from a 5kg Miele to a 9kg Beko and both Jon and his Mum have nothing but praise for it.

Haier, on the other hand, I agree with. Not because it's made in China - these days, the country of origin seems to have very little impact on the actual product, but just because they're horribly unreliable. My ex's sister had one branded HAUS exclusively for Argos and although it washed really well (deep rinses, distribution tumbles), it was forever breaking down, was the single loudest machine I've ever used and took a week just to finish a cycle.
