I know of a vintage early '60s Maytag appliance set that may be coming up for sale. The attached pictures are of the actual machines. They were fully restored to showroom/concours condition 5 or 6 years ago by a Maytag dealer and have been used for display ever since. I'm curious to know what kind of value they might have and how much of a market there may be for them. I assume machines like this and in this condition are very rare but being rare doesn't necessarily make things valuable if there's not much demand for them.

If you plan on keeping them and not to make a quick buck, I'd easily pay up to $500 for them if they are pristine and know you have something that will work for you many years in the future. There is a video a member posted here of a slightly newer model of yours from start to finish of a cycle, inside and out, as all Maytags were basically the same guts. It is on You Tube under Maytag 906 extravaganza.

You Said It

Roger,

You are absolutely correct. Something is really only worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay for it. With them being fully restored and functional does add to their value. Good luck with the dealer...I hope you get this beautiful set!

Fully restored can mean a lot of different things, if they are truly in nearly perfect mechanical condition they may be worth $500-2000 or more if you really want this set, I would probably only go toward the upper price if they have a warranty of at least one year on parts and labor that is backed by a dealer that is still in business.

I restored a brown set like this a few years ago and easily have 25 hours of time in the restoration, which is around $2000 in my time.

The dryer has a newer PB selector switch on it I would want to find and install the correct one with the gray buttons.

But if you are an appliance collector these are a cool set, if you intend to use them as your daily driver there would be much better machines to have, many parts are NLA for these models and it could be a challenge to keep them running if you use them much.

Price and Value

like John says. They probably have many hours of time and $$$ into parts of a restoration so claimed. So, for 500, better jump quick, if you don't someone else will.

Oh he's asking way more than $500 and he's been offered way more than that too.

The machines have been fully restored to the point where they're like show cars for a concours competition. Even screw heads have been polished!

I'm out of the running on this one. I thought the set would look great in my cabin along with the beautiful '56 GE stove/range and a lot of other mid-century vintage stuff I've got in there but that's not going to happen with these machines. I was just curious to know the value so I could determine if it might be worthwhile to buy them and put them on the market to a wider audience in the USA. Shipping them to the US from Canada would be costly but the strong value of the US dollar vs the Canadian dollar might have helped to offset that cost. With what he's asking for those machines, there's no room to make a profit buying and flipping them to someone stateside.

Thanks for your input everybody!

The Beverly hILLBILLIES set!

John is right, pretty, but not the best things to use, but then I don't like Maytags very much so I'm no judge, but these will go up in value because they are TOL machines, Just like a letter series Chrysler 300, 1955-1965 they didn't make nearly as many as they did 606 808 or Highlanders.
