I picked up a little espresso maker the other day and it has an attachment for using coffee pods. So I set out to Safeway and they didn't have any in their vast shelvery of coffee's, nor did two other grocery chains. I'm guessing they were a fad that fizzled and it's no wonder I've seen the pod coffee makers lining the clearance shelves.

The "POD" People have gotten them and they are Hoarding them, to prevent others from using them.

Good Luck with locating them, possibly in another Universe or Gallaxy.

A pod is a small one cup filter prepackaged with coffee. It is placed in a one cup brewing machine, and voila you have a perfect cup of coffee. **hands on hips**If you would have watched Martha Stewart the Apprentice like a good girl should have, you would know these things :) <p> there was a whole episode devoted to the Tassimo beverage system. It used T discs (pods).

 
Discs and pods.....

They had those commercial disc brewers at my husband's previous office. You could choose you flavour pod, insert it in the coffeemaker and put your cup underneath the dispenser. It was more a novelty than anything else. I didn't particularly care for the taste or quality of the coffee that it made.

My mother-in-law has one of the pod coffeemakers, and swears by them. I don't know that she has had any trouble getting the coffee for it. I do know that you can go online to Folgers or Millstone and order them. IMHO they are expensive and really unnecessary. You can make small quantities of any type of coffee in any type of coffeemaker. What will the next coffee novelty be, injectible caffeine? ;-)

We have a commercial Bunn drip coffee maker. Pods are used in there. I personally like it, for when I have to make coffee, cuz it's just toss the old one out and put the fresh one in the brewing basket.

You can't beat a Bunn for I WANT COFFEE NOW! We have the tall Bunn in the office that drips right into the air pot.

Those PODs were made by Folgers and who likes Folgers anyway.
 
One of the early espresso pod makers was Illy; I believe they are still around. A friend of mine just got a one cup pod coffee maker for Christmas and says there are three main suppliers available online. Good luck.

I think where the single serving coffe pod shines is in gas stations...at 3 a.m. on I85, anything the pod spits out has got to be better than what's been on the warmer 16 hours...

Toggle, if you ever get to visit I can show you a pod.

I have a Tassimo Machine. It is great but sound like an air compressor when you use it. I have been using the Gevalia disks for coffee coffee crema, Latte and capochinos and decafe. They are great if you need coffe with a kick to it, its fast for a quick wake up in the morning.
 
Jason, we're not all a fan of that STOUT Louisiana chickoree coffee. although, that stuff can remove the varnish off furniturre (lol) and may put more hair on my chest forest--YAY. I like Folgers very much, especially a couple of the flavor sensations one.
 
DIY Pods...

If you are feeling resourceful, you can make your own pods using some small Mr. Coffee filters, a measuring scoop, a jar, and, of course, your choice of coffee, preferably freshly-ground from the best beans (and I don't mean *$). This link explains how...

 
A few people I know use those pod coffeemakers just to have one cup to get them on their way. For instance, the husband wakes up at 4:30am and wants a cup of coffee before hitting the shower. The wife doesn't wake up til 7:00am, why make a whole pot?
Or a single person who lives by themselves just wants one cup and doesn't want to deal with the hassle of cleaning up after making a pot.
I have tried coffee from one of those pod machines and found it to be rather good, considering what it came from.
Now in the morning, I'll drink a 8 cup pot of Guatamalan Antigua from fresh ground beans each morning, all by myself. I need that extra kick in the a--.
 
As someone who lives alone, I, too, considered those Pod coffee makers. I find that my Black & Decker One Cup At A Time coffee maker works just as well.

It's great for an after-dinner cup or a mid-afternoon cup, plus you can use whatever coffee you want.
