A friend called today and wanted to know what would be a good choice for a portable dishwasher? I told him we had a top of the line Whirlpool stainless that has only been used 2-3 times since we built this house. I know nothing about dishwashers but I told him I know some guys who would have some good advise! What would be a good choice for a middle of the line portable dishwasher?

I had a Sears Kenmore portable dishwasher for about 3 years when I lived in Santa Cruz. It was real easy to use, cleanded well, good loading. I also liked the silverware basket style. Never had any problems with it and sold it on Craigs list when I moved. There are not a lot of portable diswashers to choose from. I would go with top of the line of what ever you pick. Stay away from anything that has the center wash "tower" instead of upper wash arm. If you can find Sani Rinse or Heated wash I would pick one of those.

Also in the KA/WP,Sears family, beware of the cheapos with a square/rectangulr sump area. This is a BOL or near BOL engineering design. Go for the ones (if you like those brands) with a CRICULAR filter and sump area. :-0)

I'm in the market for a portable myself and will try the new improved (filtering and washing-action) tall-tubs of those above-listed badges/maker.

just for some historical info.....

My mom ran a portable Kenmore dishwasher for about 18 years before replacing it with a built-in. All we did to it during that time was replace the pump once. It always worked great.
