Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

You won't be sorry

I installed a SQ AWN412 in my friends mother's laundry room recently. They absolutely love the machine and it does a better job faster than the junktag atlantis i replaced. I do need to adjust the water levels though as the Eco-Nazis screwed with the pressure switch controller. No dumbed down water temps on these workhorses either. Hot wash is all hot water! The 542 gives you more control over the cycles but the mechanism is the same. Go for it and have many years of great wshing. Nick
P.S. If you want to see what is going on during the cycle just unscrew and hold down the right lid hinge.

Great choice Nelson! I have two 542's and love both of them...it's always good to get the TOL and have every possible washing option. I love the matching dryer as well. Now, start stockpiling your dirty clothes and have a wash-a-thon when it comes in. :) Oh, and don't forget to put on the leg caps, and add a few gallons of water to the wash basket before turning it on (to prime the pump). In the meantime, go to SpeedQueen.com and download the install guide--it has a great install checklist for those things. Enjoy!

Also, pick up some color inserts for the knobs - 4 colors to choose from and they really make the washer stand out...if you wanna deck it out a little bit. :)

lid switch bypass

There's an easier way to bypass the lid switch...behind the console, on the right side (facing washer), you can feel around and find the lever that controls the switch (it is flat brass, if you can see behind). Wedge a piece of something (I used a rubber spatula blade over the flat piece) and the switch is permanently bypassed, or at least until you change it. You might have to "experiment" to find just the right place for blocking...but it will work. If anyone has a problem finding that, private message me with your phone number, and I'll walk you through the process.

bungee

I used a rubber bungee cord hooking one side over the level and the other under the base of the machine. If the machine ever tripped off balance, just lift up on the hook and it resets. No worry about loosing shims and spatulas behind the machine.

Thanks for all the info. Is there link or guide to adjusting the screw for the water level? Thanks, Nelson

Nelson, search for post "413378" for a picture of the adjustment screw. Some report only turning the screw a small amount - I had to turn my 4-6 complete turns (use a socket for ease of turing) and be CAREFUL...could easily twist it. Of course, unplug the washer and only attempt if you feel 100% comfortable in doing so, etc., etc.

CONGRATULATIONS.....................

I also have the AWN542, and I love it, I also bought the same machine and matching dryer for my mother. Best of luck,
Mike

Nelson, why does your washer smell bad??? do you not leave the door ajar after use? That is a most common issue with front loading washer owners/users. They have this habit of closing the washer door and leaving it closed until the next use which could be days later. If somebody unplugged their refrigerator for a few days, would they leave the door closed, of course not because they know it would get smelly inside if they did.Front loaders do the same thing. They have an air tight seal and need to be left ajar at least a few hours to allow the humidity to escape and the wet drum to dry out.I've had countless ones over the years and, after I got them, cleaned them out and used them regularly, they always smelled fresh as a daisy.Speed Queen makes some fabulous front loaders and has a strong 3 year warranty on them. Their inner as well as outer tubs are stainless steel.

Wise Choice!

Hi Nelson, I own a SQ AWS76NW that was purchased in April 2007 and haven't had any issues with it whatsoever. This model run was before the government (or whoever) stepped in to make new models more energy efficient and use less water. I didn't have to turn the adjustment screw to get the maximum amount of water for a extra large load. Totally happy with the machine!

Malcolm - machine is apparently not in as I did not receive a call. Unfortunately, I am the delivery guy since the place is over an hour away. I'll probably pick it up on Wed. granted it arrives by then. Nelson

Hadn't thought of this before but what detergent should we use? Currently using liquid detergent All 0xy He something. Suggestions and washing directions greatly appreciated.
