Non Heating KM 120 Volt Dryer

Look first at wire connections in the heater circuit, then at the 2 control thermostats, then a bad heater contact in the timer or centrifugal switch on the motor and lastly an open heating element. The 120 volt dryers almost never had a heating element failure unless a bobby pin fell on to it, Louie is that very likely around your home, LOL.

Finally got around to looking at the Kenmore. All it was a loose heating element connection. Piece of cake.

Mind you, it's very far from pristine. But with a lot of Barkeepers Friend, ammonia and elbow grease, it came out quite presentable.

In reference to the last image, would anyone know where the chain is to be attached? Between the feet of the dryer and the stand or to the dryer itself?

You can't tell by the picture, but the rear is covered in cooking grease. Yep, this dryer lived in the kitchen.

 



 



 

Whirlpool was still using an asbestos heat shield. Not as filthy as I thought it was going to be, mice droppings not withstanding.

 



 

Belt looks fine, no fraying, no cracks.

After a quick vacuuming. Rabbit cage is of course, clogged. Saving that cleaning hell for later.

I did try the dryer before bringing it home. Started right up, heated well and was quiet. I think all this machine is going to need is a thorough cleaning and some oiling.

Matching Kenmore washer, in white

Hi, if you travel all the way down to Buenos Aires you can get for US$ 35 (or 350 pesos) a matching washer to your Kenmore dryer. Seller says it has been stored for the last 20 years! Incredible how these things turn up locally, the unit is for 110V/60Hz. Maybe someone brought it from the States and didn't know how to connect it with a step-down transformer.

I look twice or thrice at these small washers and dryers (apt size) because of this thread and your postings on these machines. Thanks for posting alot of helpful visual and text info, Louie. I wouldn't mind a pair of these - but I'd like to find a pair that weren't quite so spartan looking on the outside(if that even existed?).

@ovrphil: The "fanciest" versions of these machines seem to be the Lady Kenmores. These dryers with the rare windowed door must look great!   And you're very welcomed Phil, glad you're enjoying the posts.

Notice that a full size washer and dryer were actually cheaper than the Thin-Twins. Also note, the dryer rack style has been changed. Odd, either the rack I have is much older than the dryer, or they were still available in the 1980's.
