The reason i said "Brushed Chrome"

Our dealer sold several of these, he has three of them, one which was traded back in is not in great shape and on top you can see where it has rusted under the chrome and the chrome has peeled off.

Ozzie & Harriet Double Bed

I haven't seen every episode, but were Ozzie and Harriet ever seen lying in bed together? I remember seeing Ozzie in PJs still in bed and Harriet already dressed having prepared breakfast.

One of the Problems....

....Is that the Feds no longer adequately enforce the law on stainless steel.

Time was, anything marked "Stainless Steel" really was stainless steel, conforming to a certain metallurgical standard.

Now, I'm seeing items marked "Stainless Steel" that are no such thing (Target and Walmart's kitchenwares departments are big offenders). This seems to be traceable to Chinese manufacturers for the most part, though I couldn't say if it's deliberate deception or if an item was spec'ed in stainless and then changed, with the packaging remaining the same. And ad-speak has confused things further, with "stainless-look" refrigerator fronts and the like.

The worst is eBay, where anything made of any vaguely shiny silver-colored metal is likely to be listed as stainless, including aluminum West Bend canisters, chrome Lincoln Beautyware breadboxes, you name it. If all the auctions erroneously listed as stainless had to be taken down for misrepresentation, there would be a lot of business lost to eBay during the time sellers were correcting their ads.

That Double Bed:

I don't ever recall Ozzie and Harriet actually between the sheets together, but still, the sight of a double bed in movies or TV was considered very racy at the time. The usual standard was twin beds, and there was literally a rule that at least one actor in a bedroom scene had to keep one foot on the floor at all times.

Commissaries

I don't know if they all offered it, but when I worked at MGM in the late 70's even the smaller employee commissary (The Cub Room) had beer available.

Between whatever beverage(s) they chose to order at lunch and whatever else might have been stocked in their private trailers, actors who never left the confines of the studio complex could still conceivably show up drunk for afternoon shoots.  I'm not saying I ever witnessed it or heard of anything like that happening, but alcohol was available in some form to anyone who wanted it, be it a messenger boy or a movie star.

In that respect, The Cub Room was the coolest on-site dining facility of any place I've ever worked.

Launderess: I thought the same, and laughed at the imagery but then I grew up with the advances and remember how ads and cook books depicted food. You'd have to use your imagination, even with photos, lol.

Sandy - I have been missing these shows, that air in the morning at 8:30AM; the music they play, a jazz piece, at the end with the credits is GREAT - need to get a copy of it, even if was only made for the show. Thanks for your insights and notes about Ozzie, too. Corniness aside, I still enjoy the show today. Gee, gee, gee.....

Lawrence:

"The double bed was because Harriet and Ozzie were married in real life?"

Nope.

If you'll recall, Lucy and Desi were also married in real life, and had a baby both on their show and in real life.

They still had twin beds on I Love Lucy.

So, there must be some other reason the Nelsons got away with it.
