I'll double the Bosch praise
Just recently I have seen the Vario Maxx aka the Vario Perfect Series in operation. Everybody knows that stainless steel outer tubs are only made by Miele now, so when coming down to more economic models, Bosch/Siemens Vario series seem best choice to me if you can get along with a plastic outer tub.
Hey, that machine was on 650 rpm ramping up and I could not hear a thing, balancing was close to perfect, even later on 1400 rpm the amplitude of the tub/basket assembly was no more than 10 mm (less than half an inch) and working noises were close to being unheard of. (Just a faint whine of the motor, this one sound insulated by some foam padding).
AND: No waisting time, the water valve would even open upon the drum coasting down. No waiting until the tachometric magnet would give its ok due to "0 rpm".
Just jumping through all the necessary steps, no undue sounds, a vast drum volume ( I find them a good price-value choice of materials. Parts to be had for some more decades they say. I do trust Bosch on that one.
I will recommend this one (a model of this series, that is - to be had from 5 to 10 kg a load) to my sister, her running a multiple loads a day for a commercial business.
To be thrifty yet trustful, go Bosch. (I say, Siemens being the same, as it is one corp. by now.)
Get a Vario something (Vario speed, Vario perfect, v. series, Maxx, all varios will do).
