    Anybody want a wall fridge?

Bump :-) I'd really like to see this go to a loving home. Don't worry, I won't scrap it, but it's not meeting its full potential with us.

    Anybody want a wall fridge?

I'm thinking of giving up the GE Wall fridge. It needs more TLC than I am willing to give it, and I know there are people out there who could love it. Problems: It cools, but not very much (May just need some refrigerant). The freezer frosts over almost immediately, the light socket keeps...

GE LW style wall refrigerator in Iowa

Amazing..... Someone in Council Bluffs had enough money in the 50's to buy a GE Wall fridge? ;-) Good luck on that $2500.

    Other Frigidaire Flair names?

    Don't forget the Hopoint Hallmark!

    IOWA just

I'm just thrilled! So proud of my home state! But, of course, Representative Steve King (R-Western Iowa) is already agitating for an amendment to the state constitution. (see link) Even by Western Iowa standards (which are pretty low) King is a neanderthal. Why they keep electing him is...

Birthday Wishes to our very own "Gansky"!!

    Compact Fluorescent Failures

We have CFL's in almost every fixture in the house, and they seem to generally work fine and have a long life. There is one fixture, however, that burns them out at an alarming rate. I suspect there may be something wrong with the fixture, but I haven't gotten around to switching it out.

Such a Happy Little Can Opener!!!....

There I was, skulking around the St. Vincent de Paul on my lunch break, and there it was - this little gem of a can opener! Ninety-nine cents later, we were on our way home. It's a GE, but I don't think I've ever seen this model before - and I've seen plenty of can openers.

Vintage GE Electric/Range Charcoal Grill - Turquoise

I absolutely love those! Way too far for my budget, however. I'm surprised that they never show up out here, because of the huge preponderance of electric stoves.

    Lay-Away?

I love K-Mart! I don't think K-mart ever gave up on layaway. I remember buying a TV on layaway from (I think) K-Mart back in the 80's. Couldn't get credit to save my life, so it was that or nothing. Right now, I'm buying a really fun lamp on layaway from a local antique store.

    updates on the "summer home"

Razor Blades We found the same thing when we replaced our medicine cabinet. Sort of like a primitive sharps container. And WHY would you want to get rid of that electrical service panel? ;-) Actually, it's not as crispy as some I've seen, but those old installations freak me out. (See pic) Am...

    What Brand am I?

I found this little thingy today, and thought it was cute (I love anything with drawings of housewives enjoying housework ;-) Any idea what company it belongs to? I couldn't find a brand anywhere, but I think there was a lid which has gone missing.

    Westinghouse Fryer

I've never seen one of these before. It's sort of UFO meets crematory urn, but in a nice way. Maybe this weekend I'll fire it up and fry some chicken.

    Kitchen Renovations - week 6 and 7

Your kitchen is gorgeous! Have you thought about a Sputnik-type fixture over your dining table? And I think laminate is a wise choice: It's looks nice, is easy on your china and silver (important for a clutz like me), and easy and inexpensive to replace when you get tired of it. Can't wait to...

    Introducing The Lustron Home

boy, those houses look like a lot of fun. I'm not sure if I'd be into it in the long run, but I wouldn't mind trying it for a few months or so, just to see what it was like. Laundress, out here in Seattle, we used to have quite a few neighborhoods where there were small houses on big lots. They...

Now it's Corning--When will the carnage end?

I think a big part of the problem is that CEO's and upper managers lost track of what it was they were supposed to be doing: Instead of producing quality widgits, they concentrated on making sure the Widget's stock was high performing - at least for that quarter. They also had a a thing for...

There is no safe refuge from SPAM!

I have a yahoo email address that I have had for almost ten years and it gets the usual amount of spam. One thing that I have complained numerous times about is Yahoo's inability to put in what would seem like a simple rule that if the date on the email is higher than today's date (i.e. emails...

    The Mean Little Kitty Song....

My little Sputnik died in November at the ripe-ish age of 16. I've been tempted to get another cat, but then I think of all the hassles- especially the litter box. But watching that video... It sure would be fun to have a little kitten around the house. It would have to be a kitten, because an...

It's 1956 and you want a color TV

Scott, I worked as a temp at the Southdale Daytons when they were moving from the old store to the new store. I moved display equipment from the old store to the display storeroom. You're right - the old one was much more fun. Didn't it have a big atrium with a sculpture or mobile or something?
