1996 GE washer- Transmission lower shaft question

What retains the lower shaft in the gear case? Was playing with the WJSR2080T5WW washer that I brought home last week as it had no spin. After laying it down and taking the cabinet bottom off I was able to turn it by hand. Stood it back up and put in spin and it worked for a few seconds. I then noticed the lower shaft had slid down out of the gear case. It there some type of circlip that holds the shaft in place?

Also where would one find the seal that sits at the top of the upper shaft tube and seals around the upper shaft? Dont find this listed on any parts sites.

Don't think GE provides any replacement parts for these transmissions. I've replaced lower brake housing bearings in these as that is the most common failure in them and you can get the bearing through any bearing supply co. So, I guess all the oil drained out with the shaft out? The inner input shaft is for agitation only. For spin, the entire transmission is rotated via the outer shaft (tube).

The shaft didnt come completely out and didnt lose any oil. I was able to push it back in by hand.

Right, guess it can't come all the way out, not enough room under there for that, DUH! Anyway, don't know what holds it in, since no parts are available, never had a reason to take one apart. I do have an exploded parts view of the guts but it doesn't really indicate what holds the shaft in. If you do take it apart, share some photo's.

GE gear oil

In the 1995 and newer models, do GE washers use the same type of gear oil as the older filter-flo models or do they use a completely different type of gear oil?
