Our 2nd annual Vintage Halloween meet up and 2016 gathering took place at Als Emporium and home and we welcomed old friends back as well as new ones. We had a few new appliances, vacs & mixers to play with along with all the favorites such as the Wall of Keymatics and Lux. Our friends started to arrive on friday afternoon and as per we where fashionably late with the "To Do" list so many thanks to Mark flying in from Sitges who had a new Sebo placed in his hand and Richard a screwdriver (too early for the drink) for the gazeebo`s and garden furniture...
In the end its not so much as the "too do" list ticked as sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the company with a lot of food n drink thrown in !!
Around the table, L - R, Moi, Jon (LavamatJon), Jack (Dysons r Us), Richard (Ricky50), Steve (SESteve), Mark (MarkyMark) and Alistair behind the camera.
First test wash and up for loading was the AEG Lavamat badged Zanussi Liberation recently aquired by Al, this was a machine he remembers his aunt having so special memories, up top is the Alba record deck I had earlier picked up for Gary Electron in order to play the opening song and of course what every twintubber needs a pair of sturdy black rubber gloves for all those boilwashes.
Saturday morning and others start to arrive, the weather was mixed so luckily the two gazeebos over the patio proved a welcome relief from the October drizzle - and a great place to work on appliances and to sit and gather later.
Under the gazeebo was centre stage a fab recently found "Holy Grail" a 1965 English Electric automatic washing machine with back controls, (based on the Spacemates) a very rare find for here, this was found by Darren Aitcheson and bundled into Austins tardis to bring over to us, many thanks boys !!
Looking @ the transmission are L - R, Jon (LavamatJon), Richard (Ricky50), Darren C (Slowspin66), Mathew (Keymatic3203) and Austin[this post was last edited: 11/11/2016-04:50]
In the vintage launderama and in charge of Hotpoint Top Loader testing are Richard (RichardC1983), Jon (LavamatJon), Darren Aitcheson, Paul (PaulC), Phil (ServisSlimline) and Chris (ServisChris)
Well no sheets where harmed, dragged around, floated on top or failed to come clean in the the recently renovated Hotpoint 1501 from 1966 (Hotpoint 2nd Toploader) we witnessed underwater SpiraClean action, 95d boilwash with dilution rinse, spray rinse and final static rinse, topped off with a 1050 spin and straight on the line.
The Hoover Keymatic from 1961 was getting some TLC from Richard and Steve while the Milk Tray man was observing in the background, many thanks to you both, feels like its moved on more than the timeline ha ha...
Look at the kip of this !! Its the heater from the Hoover Keymatic which sits under the front width of the washbowl, side to side, 3kW`s of limescale had all sort of fused together, luckily it was dry and flakey and washed off after a soak with viakal.
Meanwhile outside the gang are worshipping the "Bradford Steam Washer" from 1900 which was a copper cylinder housed in an outertub (Looks like the tubs of the Lady Kenmore Washer Dryer of Uni`s) this would sink on a range top gas burner or coal fire and would boil the washwater while you hand cranked the drum inside..
L - R: Robbie, Michael, Ian, Chris and Jacob singing into the studio mic ...
I think Walter and Richard are doing the same as I snapped a kwik pic of the smiley one Steve delving deeper into the Keymatic service manual and Matchbox Paul who played a blinder on 2 days of t-cutting waxing and polishing of the English Electric that Darren found....otherwise please caption ?
The Servis Saphire 1300 computer control..seen on a number 2 wash programme ITCL code. cottons, 60d temp, long wash vigerous action, 3 rinses and a final 1300 rpm spin.
