"In the life of every woman" ...

...

Oy.

These commercials -- which are a reflection of the popular culture of the time -- reducing a woman's entire world to how clean "her" laundry is.

Is it any wonder there was a militant feminist movement in the late '60s??

Women And Washday

I have compiled a block of laundry product commercials on three DVD's, and the striking thing I found--especially in the 50's, 60's and 70's--is the orgasmic-like reaction of women (virtually no men around) who achieved total washday nirvana. But then, the soap and detergent makers knew who to pitch their products to.
And talk about celebrities--Lily and Kaye were just some of the stars pitching laundry products. Eddie Albert (Biz); Rose Marie (Tide XK); Ed Sullivan (Fab) and even a pre-presidential Ronald Reagan (Borateem) can be seen shilling for various soaps, detergents and additives.
A great social history lesson, IMHO.

Well Mike ...

... there COULDN'T be any men in sight in laundry detergent commercials.

That would make them -- GASP! -- g a y!!!

Gay Men?

Hey, I'm gay and I do the laundry in our household. I just tell my better half to toss his dirty undies and socks in the hamper, and I'll make sure they come out white and bright. Not that straight guys can't do laundry, but....

And hey, girls: Listen to Sheila!

(Straight) "Guys" doing Laundry...

Have you seen one do it?

*No Offense* But Have you? Cold Cycle, Throw in Everything.

Seriously, I can't honestly say I've meet one yet that knows how to properly dose detergent, and run a proper cycle on a washer.
