Appliances to use in Rental Properties-Is Magic Chef any good?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Used seems to be every ones idea...

SO aside from that and the fact that i will stick to the coil ranges, anything else????

I know for a fact that Ms.Jackie has said no, even when we where in a pinch for a fridge or something...She'd rather jack the rent up or something for new appliances...

I would game for the used stuff as well, but she just won't put up with it...

BUT, thanks for the ideas.... Its well worth hearing others ideas

well, one idea

I think you could probably come out ahead if you were to stick to the mol stuff. BOL in the US is usually absolute trash. TOL is usually just fancied up mol. The quality and real usefulness is the same.
My rule of thumb: Any "feature" you need the instruction book for is not worth if for a rental.
It will just get broken.

Yup..Agreed..

I am going with Hotpoint for everthing but the Dishwashers and Washer/Dryers..They will be Ropers (dishwashers and washer/dryers) or Frigidaire (only washer/dryers)

She is happy with that and we have a stoarge unit wich will have a number of spares to replace broken units..

About 8 years ago, in my last apartment, the range wore out. It was gas, a nice older drop-in with the broiler inside the oven, it was nice be able to broil without getting down on the floor. The landlord replaced it with a bottom-of-the-line GE free standing range (same as the Hotpoint). Regular pilot lights, in fact no electric cord at all (see link below). As cheap as it was, the range performed very well and baked nice cakes, I feel it is the perfect rental range, even if the tenant has to get on his knees to broil.

The great old Whirlpool dishwasher was replaced with a Magic Chef $199 special. It never caused a problem, but it had to be carefully loaded because it had no top sprayer.

(they pay, gulp, upwards of $1,350 a month rent)

LOL ROFL LMAO.

Here on Long Island (not even in NYC) that is a sh--ty one bedroom with no view, no amenities and no features and no appliances except a stove and a fridge-- whatsoever!

Includes heat and hot water, no blinds no rugs, no cooling systems or units, no nothing.

Hotpoint only sells 1 dishwasher ($179.95)
I think the Roper is a little better choice...

I do not like the WP/Ropers with the SQUARE filter trap at the bottom. This type is used in the BOL offerings of those brands.

I beleive the Hotpoints and up use the same overall engineering. Although water-hogs they work decently enough IMHO

OK OK. Granted: a smooth-top (or sealed gas burners)may be a luxury when it comes to tenants.

But on the other hand when one has a fear of fire, a coil unit or open gas burners are a grease pit and an accident just wating to happen. Especially i'd say in those regions of the country where the majority of foods are still deep-fried.

Here is a SEARS BOL "Galaxy" badged POS electric cooker. It may be just what the doctor ordered. For all intents and purposes "disposable" between tenants.

Again, people....

I happen to be a renter.

Some of us cook, some of us even give dinner parties.

Not all of us trash our apartments.

I don't call my landlord about really small stuff like fluorescent tubes, or loose screws in a hinge....

I do not, have never expected TOL appliances, far from it. However some of us know decent appliances.

Some of you have sounded almost adversarial here in this thread.

Not all of us trash our apartments.

I lived under the landlord, who was an old man. He was gettingn "forgetful". One day it was raining out of the bathroom lighting fixture that was in the middle of the ceiling. I rang the ladlord's bell. He was most appreciative that I notified him right quick.

He came down to see the damage. Didn't day "BOO" about the "illegal" washer, dryer and DW. He actually said: "Wow, it's so clan and beautiful." He sent his family over to see the ceiling fans and decor.

Of course, I said I'd paint the mess myself. I didn't call the landlord EVER under ordinary circumstances.

Tenants like us Lawrence are very much appreciated. But bad ones are BAD!

I bought a Magic Chef

stainless steel gas stove around 2000, that was really made and designed by Maytag, not a Maytag-badged Amana, and it is a DREAM. But it cost close to $900, and obviously wasn't a stove for a rental unit. If I ever sell this house, the stove is coming with me.

Don't know about Magic Chefs today in the rental apartment price range, but I suspect they'd be better than the Hotpoint.

I recently cooked dinner on a friend's bottom-of-the-line Hotpoint gas stove, and it was a piece of shit. Especially the oven. The Maytag/Magic Chef oven floors have deflectors that send the heat up the side walls of the oven, where it convects back down off the oven roof. It bakes softly, evenly and beautifully. Other brands of gas ovens simply have open vents in the sides of the oven floor without any deflectors, so the heat isn't as even, and anything around the open vents overcooks.

Just my 2 cents.

I rent out the condo I used to live in....

I replaced all the 70's gold appliances that were originally in the unit with new GE's when I moved out. I'm now on my 2nd tenant, and still no complaints whatsoever. The place still looks as nice as it did when I left it. I've had gentle caring tenants, I suppose. Then again, it's a nice condo, in a very upscale hi rise. They pay quite a lot to live there. And maybe I'm cautious, I hold 2 months rent in addition to the deposit. I've never had a phone call about a problem, nor has anyone left a mess.

If you pay

If you pay alot for a rental you will care for it 98% of the time..But if it's a company paid for rental, it's another story..
