Best new dryers

One of my sons dryer had the drum freeze up yesterday. It is the GE 5.7 cu ft dryer. The dryer must be replaced as they are a family of 5 with another due in October. What do you guys recommend. They have the Frigidaire front load with the controls on top just like Frigilux (Eugenes). His wife works at Lowe's here so can get employee discount there or we can look at a used applince place here also.

Buy the Bosch Nexxt series!

The big new Bosch dryers may not perfectly match it, although, it will be the best choice. They not only dry well, they are bigger than the old one, and much bigger than the washer, which can be a big bennifit in your drying time. I reciently helped a friend pick out a dryer, the old one was a Frigimore dryer, similar to the GE, Frigimore washer, although newer than the dryer, they totally love them together! The virgin load took 34 minutes to dry, and they were all towels. We used the regular sensor dry, the display says one hour one minute, one the dryer sences the load, and how much miosture is in it, then you have a reliable and very acurate count down display. My friend has a family of four, and often times more on the weekends, she does respate care, sometimes having eight kids in the house, it never misses a beat,Your friend will love this dryer, they are usually 849, my friend bought hers on sale for 749, worth every penny, and with your friends discount, she will have a great dryer to take home, Good Luck

The Bosch sounds nice but rather expensive. If they're on more of a budget you cant go wrong with any of the Whirlpool?kenmore 7.0 cu ft dryers. They're big and quite fast, also easy to service, you'll never have a hard time finding parts.

Bosch Dryers

Hi Folks,
I have the Bosch Logixx condenser dryer and I am very impressed with it. Perfect even drying, extremely quiet for a condenser model and a huge drum by European standards. It features unique drum paddles that eliminate the need for reverse tumbling and it actually works as I have had no balling or tangling whatsoever.
I cannot comment on the larger US models but if they are as well designed is their smaller Logixx cousins they will be great dryers.

For what it's worth--

I suggest the WhirMoreTag group dryer. It's a good value for the money. I suggest getting one with at least a 6 cubic foot drum, preferably the 7 cf drum.

Also, if possible, and it holds true in their location, go for the gas heated dryer. Here, they are seriously cheaper to run than an electric dryer.

Yes, they will pay somewhat more up front, but in the long run, it will save.

I'm with several of the others here: With that much laundry to do, go with a dryer that has a larger drum---Whirlpool or GE, for instance. I find that a very full load in my washer (like your son's) overloads my Frigidaire dryer. If they don't mind an unmatched pair, go for a big drum!

If they go for a Frigidaire (to keep a matched set), be sure they get the TOL machine (still very inexpensive) with a moisture sensor. My 2001 Frigidaire didn't have that feature, so I replaced it and like the moisture sensing dryer better.

Be sure to let us know what they get; We're nosy that way, you know, LOL!

Thanks for all the help and suggestions. I will get my son to look at all the information. I don't post much but sure appreciate all the help. Usually would try to repair the dryer but have been laid up with big toe infection that went to the bone and fractured it. Been working from home for the past 4 weeks. Thank goodness I can as a database administrator.

Bosch does make a terrific dryer...very high airflow and quiet. The Kenmore/Whirlpool dryers are still among the best on the market...big, quiet, fast and reliable.

I'd go with a Kenmore/Whirlpool/KitchenAid hands down. Quiet, relieable, great capcity for a family load. Parts are always available if needed.
Why go through a headache of repairs(GE's don't have the best track record now days)
I'd spend the money for something alot more reliable and suitable for family loads day in and day out useage.

Re: Which Dryer to go with:

Does Lowe's have the Matching Dryer to their Frigidaire Front-Load Washer still available? If not, I would suggest going with a Whirlpool or another Frigidaire Model, if even having the Front Controls, unless they don't want them to look "Odd" with the 2-different Control areas. Good luck with the search and buying.

I would stay away from the Frigidaire dryers. Too small. and crappy. The Whirlpool ones are the bests.
