Ok, I about fell over when I saw this huge Magic Chef for sale this weekend. I had seen a similar model with a warming oven in person and another member here has one.

I never really wanted one that badly, because I never thought I would find one that I could afford.

Introducing my newest child. :-)

More pics to come after I figure out how to move it.

Welcome!

Welcome to the big, beautiful Magic Chef stove club!!! I almost feel like an Uncle... You lucky sob, it looks like you have the work light assy in yours! Must have more pictures! Mine is a 1929 Series 1000, born in the American Stove Works, St. Louis, MO. Details, please!

I bought it from the original owners niece I think. It was in one of the larger homes in St. Louis, actually right behind the family home of the American Stove family!

It had spent a number of years in the basement of the house. Later it was rescued by the lady I bought it from. It's missing one knob, but is completely intact otherwise. I was shocked at first when I lifted the burner cover to see the grates were missing. They were quickly found in the drawer and returned to their rightful place!

I had always wanted an vintage larger stove to go with my refrigerators. All the stoves that appealed to me were 1950's ones that I felt clashed with the 1930's fridges. This one fits quite nicely. Well, it will since my kitchen is gutted and the room can be built around this stove.

I am so excited. I hope my moving friends don't kill me.

Fantastic find!
So beautiful!
Looks like you could cook up a storm on your own terms!

Beautiful!!!

That's one hell of a stove! I bet cooking and baking will be such fun. What are the different drawers on the right hand side for?

Jim,

My stove has two ovens, one in the upper right and one below the burners. Directly below the right burner is a brolier and beneath that a utility drawer.

I believe Drew's stove is identical except it has a warming oven on the top right.

Gawgeous, boyz!

Any chance of some money shots and one of the thermostat too?

Once the gas valves are regreased (resealed) and the door hinges as well it should live another 100 years!

TIA!

I bet those stoves will out last the stuff that's being made today. The house that we moved into in the early 70's had a vintage stove. I remember it having a hinged lid to cover the burners when not in use, no pilot lights and a very small oven. We used it for about five years, then mom and dad sold it and bought a Magic Chef gas stove in harvest gold.

Travis, my biker friend (RIP) used to restore old stoves and back in the early 80's he had one of those Magic Chef's like yours in his shop and was trying to find it a home. I wanted it so bad but had no place for it. Tried to get my cousins to take it as they were looking for something vintage at the time, but they weren't interested.

That stove looks like it could get up and dance around the kitchen in a Betty Boop cartoon. You really scored!

More pics

I got the beast moved today! It went well with four men and a lift gate. It almost filled the truck bed itself.

That auto correct feature on the pics makes it look terrible.

I am still stunned

I never thought I would find one of these. I just expected that they would all sell for more than I could afford, until this was on Craigslist for $375 locally. I got so excited and nervous that I wouldn't get it.

It's in great shape with minimal chips. The previous owner bumped the drawer with her car and bent the drawer itself, hence the crooked lower drawer. I haven't wiped it down yet. It will eventually move upstairs and be one of the focal points of my kitchen.
