Haven't watched it yet. I notice it's over 2 hrs... so it might have to wait until the weekend.

Saw the movie three times, and now just got the DVD @ Wal-mart in Los Angeles, California.

YAY! Brokeback. Every time I see it, I get more out of it!

I hope it translates well to the TV screen; Films that move at a deliberate pace sometimes suffer when they aren't viewed in a theater. Hope all those beautiful, long, panoramic outdoor shots don't come across as boring...

Went to Borders to buy mine, 19.99, Blockbusters 21.99, found it at Wal-Mart on sale 16.97. Watched it twice all ready. Still makes me cry.

I would love to send the AFA (American Family Association) over to the Netherlands for a month Louis. Would you mind showing them all a good time in Amsterdam? Don't forget to take them "window shopping" after a nice stop in at one of those many fabulous "coffee shops".

They have to be the one of the most evil, hateful organizations out there to date. While they are definitely all American, the are the very far from having anything to do with a real family.

Well, the long panoramic shots where anything but boring, even on an older 30" color TV. Breathtaking scenery - my favorite was the scene of the big river as they approached the mountain. I'm sure it would be even better on a big movie screen, but I was still able to appreciate the artistry that went into it.

And YAY Brokeback Mountain is finally coming to the cute Minneapolis 1950's neighborhood theater that I have proclaimed as "my" theater! I can hardly wait to see it this weekend - I KNOW I'm gonna cry!

Well, we went to Wal-Mart last night, bought the BB Mountain for me and I let my son choose one for himself. BB Mountain was on a huge aisle display near the front door.

He picked the newest Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. We got them home and I opened mine but his had no plastic outer wrapping on it and no tape on the bottom of the plastic case. You guessed it, someone had removed them and stolen the disc out of the case! How precious is that?? It was a rather good lesson in NOT stealing as we were quite disappointed when the movie was gone.

Now I have to go back!

One has to wonder how a thief had opportunity to hork the disc what with the industrial-strength prophylactic wrap and tape that encases them!

Makes me wonder if some vandals from the religious right didn't purposely purloin the actual DVD in store and later destroy it as part of their campaign to get Walmart not to sell the movie.

A razor blade or sharp penknife probably allowed whoever did it to slit open the case and disgorge the contents, pretty quickly.

I have noticed a growing trend in DVD's, though. For nearly 20 bucks we get a plastic case without any documentation. No program, not even a coupon for movie related accessories. I also noticed this with my last DVD purchase, the Wallace & Grommit "Attack of the Wererabbit" movie. Just the DVD, nothing else. Oh well, most of the "liner notes" are usually illegible, anyway.

I took the Harry Potter video back in today to exchange for one WITH the disc. Strangely enough, there was no hermetically sealed tape on the lower part of the case as there was on the top. Once the plastic outer wrapping was cut or removed (as ours was) you could easily snap the case open far enough to slip the disc out.

Oh, I thought the Brokeback DVD was the one that had the missing disc. Sorry.

I wonder where all of those good Christian bigots would shop if they could not, in good conscience, shop at WalMart? It would be an interesting social phonomenum. Would they place their bigotry before their economics and love for things made in China? It brings to mind the Nazis telling the master race that they could not patronize Jewish businesses or professionals like doctors and that's important to note, because the only logical end of both hate groups' campaigns is to get rid of their targets. If you would like any background for the BBM movie campaign, Google Entarte Kunst. In any case, the WalMart boycott will probably be as effective as the Disney boycott.

Well, I've watched it twice on DVD now. I am noticing more nuances of the story the second time around. The interviews in the DVD special features area are good, also. They helped me realize how the film portrays the chaos and dismay that can occur when two people - regardless of orientation - with lfielong genuine affection for each other are not able to acknowledge it openly, or be together.

So now we missed our one chance to abite the problem.

To tell you the truth...

I really had no interest in seeing this movie. For some reason the subject matter didn't appeal to me. But last night the wife called me in the den to watch the BBM special on Logo TV. So I did watch that, I will admit it seems like a beautifully filmed movie, and I am a sucker for brilliant photography. I couldn't make much out of the entire story line, the Logo show concentrated on the actors, director, production problems, and how everyone got through the filming of the movie. So tonight we'll watch the movie and see what we think of it.
Is this one of those movies with a sad ending? I don't like sad endings, gore, and needless violence in my movies.

I guess it's time...

to break out the case of Kleenex. Karen (the wife) goes to absolute pieces during sad endings, and I get all choked up and teary eyed and whatever happens in the movie keeps rerunning in my mind for several days which I find very disturbing.
What made me actually want to see this movie was the line from the television special "It's not just a gay cowboy movie, it's soooo much more than that!". We'll see!
