Cascade Fryer Boil Out Put to the Test!

I wanted to test out the Cascade Fryer Boil Out on cooked on egg, so I made a simple fried rice tonight with the only ingredients on hand -- left over brown rice, two eggs, broccoli, and soy sauce.  I used a stainless steel pan that I can run in the dishwasher.  The load is running now.  I'll post some after photos when it's finished! 

 

I added a small amount of the Fryer Boil Out to the pre-wash and filled the main wash cup all the way since we have rather hard water in my area.

I would say the Cascade Fryer Boil Out did a commendable job on eggs.  The only thing left behind from the cooked on egg is a little protein stain.  I'm not sure Cascade Platinum pods would have done a better job.  A little Bel Ami and some elbow grease will take care of that!

I’ve noticed on some of the things like eggs and such that if I put a Finish or other tab in the prewash the enzymes start to break it down and then the powder detergent completely removes the rest.

Fryer Boil Out

Looks like it did a good job.
I think I have the exact pan. With Finish Quantum and STPP the protein stains are just a touch lighter than what they look like on your pan. Like you mentioned, something like Bar Keeper's Friend removes that completely.
Generally, Egg is the worst as far as soils that are not completely removed in the dishwasher.

All Clad

The two pans in the DW are made by All Clad (their copper core line).  I use a variety of brands, including Mauviel and Demeyer.  My favorite go to pan is a carbon steel skillet that I own.  In my book, it can't be beat for versatility.

After using the Fryer Boil Out several times on some real messes which included baked on cheese and egg, I'll have to say I'm not impressed.  It does a good job on everyday loads.  However, when it comes to the really tough stuff, it's not nearly as effective as the Costco dishwasher pods and a tsp. of STPP.  The other thing I noticed is that cooked on and baked on goo from pans is left deposited around the accumulator when using the Boil Out.  It also leaves lingering odors in the tub.  None of that happens when using the Costco pods. 

 

I'll use up the Boil Out on regular loads but I won't purchase it again once it's gone.

Tough Cleaning Test

Corning-ware loaf pan after Turkey meat loaf [ with egg and barbecue sauce ] Pan sat out on the counter all weekend was not soaked or any other prep.

I actually pushed the pots and pan button for the first time in at least 10 years, I checked the pan after the first drain figuring that it might need a little help and it was already completely clean, I will probably never use the P&P cycle again.

Water heater set on 130F water hardness 7-9 grains. And best of all no Phosphates used to damage the Chesapeake Bay or the Earths Oceans.

So can this be used to clean stuff used for deep frying? And deep fryers?

Looks great, if it's as easy as just putting in your dishwasher...

Fryer Boil Out

The older Finish Quantum was very good. Interesting to see that you are more likely to switch back to the Costco pacs. I have wondered about trying them, but negative reviews have turned me away. You have any issues with them? Especially in comparison to the Quantum pacs?

For anyone interested: Here’s what CR has to say. All are pacs unless noted. Resistance to water spots, resistance to redeposit of food, and resistance to film all Very Good or Excellent unless noted otherwise.

I use Member’s Mark Ultimate Clean from Sam’s Club. Have no problem with redepositing in softened water, but that was a significant ding in the score. The latest tub purchased now has blue specks mixed in with the white powder. No explanation on packaging as to what the blue specks do.

These are the top five brands/variations in the ratings.

Kirkland Signature (Costco) 11 cents/pac: Score: 85; Cleans Dishes: Excellent; Pots: Very Good

Cascade Action Pacs w/ Clorox 34 cents: Score: 84; Dishes: Excellent; Pots: Excellent

Cascade Action Pacs + Oxi 34 cents: Score: 84; Dishes: Excellent; Pots: Excellent

Member’s Mark Ultimate Clean (Sam’s Club) 10 cents: Score 83; Dishes: Excellent; Pots: Excellent (redeposit score only Fair)

Finish Powerball 18 cents:Score: 82; Dishes: Excellent; Pots: Good

Interestingly, Cascade Platinum w/ Dawn scored a bit lower (79), as did Finish Max In 1 Powerball (78)

The highest scoring gels were Cascade Complete w/ Dawn and Palmolive Eco+ (69). Other gels scored anywhere from 33 (Great Value) to 51 (Finish).[this post was last edited: 2/17/2020-17:53]

I've used the Finish Quantum Powerballs in the past but they tended to leave behind bits on metal pans and utensils.  The Kirkland pods usually provide outstanding results every time.

I've always wondered if the Cascade pacs with their rainbow color liquids are just marketing baloney to justify their high price or if having a liquid component (or separate liquid components) provides any actual value.  The high rating of the Costco pacs (which don't appear to have any liquid) makes me very skeptical of P&G.

Perhaps I'll seek-out a small package of Finish Powerballs for a test ... but my problem is any of those fixed-dose products are an overdose for my dishwasher.
