I have a set of green acrylic glasses that I've had and used daily for over 20 years.  They have been washed in the dishwasher hundreds if not thousands of times, no issue.  They were crystal clear, now look at them after a few uses of Cascade Platinum.  I have no idea what happened, almost looks like they are shattered.  Small vertical hair sized line have formed.  Called Cascade and they were totally unhelpful.  Just be warned there is something in the platinum version that will react with certain plastics.

I think I'll go back to Finish of Cascade commercial....

Acrylic

I have let all my acrylic glassware go to the trash.  I don't think it is the detergent.  But the temperature in the dishwasher that eventually causes the acrylic to become brittle and fracture.  Sad cause I loved that lightweight tea pitcher.

This will (eventually) even affect my favorite acrylic ware, Tervis Tumblers. Tervis does carry a lifetime waranty on their tumblers, and I send them back to Florida, and they send me new ones. I liken it more to the Miele's high temps (@ 150F)than the Miele Tabs.

Every last cup and glass in our house is made from glass or ceramic. Too many memories of growing up in a house where the acrylic glasses were washed AFTER greasy pans, etc. in the sink using the same water. When you grabbed each glass it would almost slip out of your hand because of all the grease left on it.

My issue is these glasses were clear until I used Platinum Cascade.  They have been in the dw almost daily for 20 some years, why now?  It has to be the cascade.

now I'm on the lookout for a set of green tall glasses, not the easiest thing to find.

My daughter has some cups that are plastic. They had turned a cloudy milky white color when using Cascade Complete, and Finish Quantum. The very first washing with Cascade institutional and they are clear again.

Matt, when I saw the thread title, I thought you were going the other way. I have always added Clorox to the DW, until I started using Platinum. My hot water is a little cooler than normal because I still haven't decided what type of new tank to replace it with. Since using Platinum, I no longer need Clorox because the dishes sparkle now without it. Started using Platinum because of all the raves I read here.

Big raves for Cascade Platinum from me, too, mickeyd. However, I haven't washed any vintage acrylic glassware with it. Platinum is the only dishwasher detergent I stock, anymore. It's spendy, but the results are excellent with soft water and the LG dishwasher.

Hope you can get to the bottom of what's causing the problem Matt--and I hope it's not the Cascade!

There is one other possibility

Drying agent.

I have a Jet-stream oven with a polycarb. dome. Instructions say that dome can be washed in the dishwasher, "Do Not Use Drying Agent as it can damage the plastic."

It is possible the drying agent in the Platinum packs was the culprit.
