Classics leaving the Laundromat

Today, I signed the purchase order for 8 brand new Maytag Helical Drive, Orbital Tranny coin-op washers. These will replace 6 classic GE coin-op washers in one 'mat and 2 DD WP washers in the other. The GEs and the WPs will go into storage for either selling at a later date, or for my next 'mat that I take over.

Why did I do this?
1) The price was right,
2) I could put the entire balance on my MasterCard,
3) The GE's are such huge water hogs that I needed to do this anyway,
4) I'm just not happy with the flimsy WP's
5) They are computerized, so here comes the 12 minute wash and the 3 minute rinse.
5) They were sooooooo pretty!!!

Meanwhile, everyone from Maytag is very optimistic about the new owners of the company. They are looking forward to some big changes, all for the better.

Cycles

Whites (hot)
Colors (warm)
Bright Colors (cold)
Permanent Press (warm with a longer spray rinse)
Delicates (warm, soak and wash)
Woolens (cold, soak and wash)

And... I can add the "Super Wash" option that adds more wash time and a second rinse -- for a price, of course!

Wow, and they are under warranty! Can I come to the move-in party? Sounds real nice and I am sure you will be glad to have them. Are they all pink or are some of them turquoise or sunny yellow?

Nice! I assume the Superwash replaces one of the other cycles? Or is it an extra option?

The Super cycle is an extra option that adds extra washing time and an extra rinse (I know the Neptunes do but I'm not too sure about the TL). However, rather than a button, you just add an extra quarter in the drop and it'll give you a super cycle! Quite a good idea actually. I believe newer Speed Queen washer extractors (B-Micro series) also have a similar kind of option.

Congratulations! IMHO, the Orbital Maytag is the best coin-op design I've seen since the "original" Helical Drive machines; they seem very sturdy and well-built. As for other machines, I've seen many vintage and modern Maytags as well as DD Whirlpool coin-ops at the laundromats but unfortunately no old-style GE's. However, at the hotel in Port Aransas last summer, I had to wash and dry in coin-op plastic GE machines...

The fact that the Orbital Maytags have computerized controls is quite interesting--thought this was a feature available only on the Neptune coin-ops. Besides the cycles, are there any other user-selectable options, and do these have the LoadSensor (DA clone) or PowerFlex (straight) agitator?

Perhaps you are suited to become an appliance repairman. By the time you reach 20 y.o. you will have mastered that (IMHO) and can then move on to airplane/ jet-enginge mechanic...all kidding aside.
