Has anyone ever thought of taking a truly crappy dishwasher such as the low end Frigidaire and putting a high powered motor and pump in it ?(Tim Allen, eat your heart out),thus bringing the wash action up from when you tinkle-ish to tsunami levels?

Well, I've often thought the same

Today's machines seem to use such wimpish wash pumps, it is amazing anything comes out clean.

I would prefer a machine that had powerful sprays to both baskets, with an option to reduce the spray pressure to the upper basket, should the user require it. Sometimes I have to place a pot or two in the upper basket, and I have to select the least soiled pots to place there.

Some Hoover and I think Zanussi machines in the UK, circa 1986, had a lever adjuster around the top basket feed funnel that allowed the spray to be reduced if washing china and crystal. The Hoover 'Crystaljet' springs to mind.
