I am just wondering if there is a company that makes aftermarket dishwasher racks and silverware baskets. The silverware basket in my GE Nautulis has started breaking. Two of the "slats" on the "floor" of the basket have been knocked out by moving silver in the wash cycle. Now I have to be extra careful when loading so things don't potrude through the extra space. Also, the rack isn't efficient at all. The spaces between the tines are too wide to load a decent amount of plates. The wash tower gaurd is way too large... there's a TON of space that could be added if it were the appropriate size. The front corners of the bottom rack are tapered an a weird angle instead of squared off and space is lost there too. Is there a company that makes better racks and baskets than the ones that originally came in the machine? Thanks!

Unfortunately, no and I know what you mean. I guess racks are designed to hold some of the heavier stoneware dinnerware and still allow room for the smaller and smaller quantities of water to be able to reach the soiled surfaces. The lower rack in my 18s has two additional rows of pins compared with the racks that followed. The pins in the lower rack of my Kenmore UltraWash are very far apart. If you have sturdy plates, you can dovetail them when loading. The other thing you might try to find is the movable plate divider in the Superba 21 or 22 series. Because it could be adjusted to two positions, it was removable. It is possible that one of these could be positioned in the rack to help. Otherwise, I would keep alert at kitchen and storage shops (Container Store) and poke around where they have this kind of stuff for dish storage. You might find that one of those organizers for pan lids will help. I will tell you that after years of watching restaurant staff load plates bowls and other stuff in the flat racks of the Hobart Turtleback dishwashers behind the counter in Waffle House, Toddle House and Dobbs House restaurants, I learned that you do not always need pins to hold things. Often a well placed pan, pan cover, pitcher or other object will give you a place to position something that needs support to stand up. Best of luck. Tom

Bobby, check to see if there is a Habitat for Humanity ReStore near you. The ones I've been in I have seen spare 2nd hand dw racks as often as not. Plus you might find a vac or two or three. Orphaned hoses, attachments etc.

There's always trash picking. Somebody around your neighborhood is throwing away a dishwasher that has just the silverware basket you need. Best of all, it's free!

Find one yet?

Hi,
I have a recently retired GE Profile dishwasher that is back in my dump. The racks and silverware basket are in very good shape. Friends of mine just got a Nautilus and if my memory serves me correctly the racks look the same as the profile..maybe someone here could let me know. I'd be more than happy to fish out the silverware basket and post a photo of it here if you still need one.
Bill
