Following on from our "Large gathering" Halloween weekend 2016 it soon becomes apparent that our beloved vintage appliances often need a repair, tweek or masterbuild in order to keep them tickity boo and working !! You can see in the link thread that we often start repairs on said machines but have so much fun meeting up and chatting that we run out of time Sooo with that in mind we set too this weekend with a few of us to "Get To Grips" with a few key projects..

1. The follow on work with the very rare English Electric 4027 Autowasher found by Darren Aitch in a garden...
2. Finding out the cause of the Hoover keymatic timer not advancing after the great work already done by Steve and Richard..
3. Rolls Rapide twinny getting a new spin pump and overhaul
5. Electra Creda front loader overhaul and drum bearings and door boot/
6. Miele and Creda tumble dryers to get working.
7. Hoover Autojet dishwasher pipes sealed and testing

The wiring loom in the English Electric 4027 had been cut through so Mathew painstakingly linked it all together ready for testing using bullet connectors..

Richard (Ricky5050) gets to grips with the Hoover Superjet dishwasher, this was leaking from around sump area ..

The Hoover keymatic 3224 from 1961 needed a complete overhaul over numerous meets, the advancing timer is now the issue..

Consulting the "Hoover Doctrine or bedtime reading" to throw light onto the problem, all contacts , relays, cams and wiring loom checked, contacts cleaned and sanded, the machine operates, moves to the next sequence but not operating on the "Timed" portion of the programme.

Most of the time was spent like this, on knees delving into the said machines ha ha..kneepads and tool boxes where orders for the day !!

Heres the timer in situ, its the 2nd generation timer on the sloping front keymatic, its a German made timer made by Holzer and its registration is AU..very advanced for its time as the terminal are placed in block connectors which make for ease of unclipping unlike later Crouzet timers which had all individual contacts..

The AEG door catch is replaced by Richard & Steve while the Niele dryer awaiting its turn..

With wiring loom all crimped Mathew moves onto making a watertight door seal, now as we know as these boots are as hens teeth rare, its time to get creative..

Soo with the tub front and cast balancing ring removed, the thinking is 2 door boots, one fixed to drum inner lip and one through the front panel connected through the drum weight using a plastic panel which booth boots can be fixed and sealed to....of to the store we go - and the solution is ?

Yup you guessed it - a rigid plant pot cut to the right size...forming a rigid ring of plastic that both boots can be clamped to !! How ingenious is Dr Matt !!

All that work and its time for tea, fresh cheese scones and cake plus the usual many cups of tea...

Yum - all homebaked by Alistair..cheese scone, treacle tarts, mini apple pies and crunchynut biscuits..

And now the Electra Creada autowasher ( made by Creda for our national Electricity Board shops) is hauled ou, the back panel and drum removed ready for a bearing change, the seal had gone letting water into the bearings which had then been leaking rusty water all over the backplate , cabinet components and motor - time for a cleanup..

For its 30 + years age and use the inner tub was remarkably clean...obviously a good powder detergent had been used !!

Meanwhile outside Jon (Lavamatjon) Ian (TriumphToledo) and Al (vacbear58) where testing the mini Haier top loader

The Hoover Washdog twinny, Hoovermatic 3314 with automatic heater / timer and autorinse from 1974 was being put through its paces by Ian..

The Hoover Keymatic was being water tested..

And after all that work its time to wrap for the day and enjoy dinner and chill..ham with new potatoes, quinoa, salads, coleslaws and beetroot..

Next day tackling with great gusto the English Electric door boot challenge..
Cutting the rigid plastic ring to fit, cutting back Bendix door seal to fit the EE inner tub, cutting the Servis gasket to fit the front panel and door seal, placing rigid plastic ring through front weight and front tub panel, sealing and securing door boots to inner ring and finally fitting front tub panel metal outer clamp ring !!
