Yet another trip out in the car (638 mile round trip this time)

Most of it going back to my home county luvlee sunee klasseee Essex :-)

So what made me drive that far...........well a rather nice Hoover computer logic dryer was part of it, picked that up in Crawley, it is the matching model to the A3974 computer logic washing machine i got a few months ago.

And then onto wickford in darkest Essex......

colour drift

Well the machine is in A1 nik and has faded more or the less the same amount as the washer.............good :-)

Crawley to Wickford

well it was the phone call that got all this high mileage driving going.

So here it si all the way from Sunny EsseX

The page 3 Full frontal

full on

There are some issues with this machine, normal age related ones i would think, as mentioned i have already changed the pump and the tub outlet hose, i also replaced the nice old black door boot seal as it had turned to black sticky crusty goo, i have tried it out and it sort of works but until i can get some more little jobs done i cannot test it properly.

It has a bit of history, the lad who called me had been left his nans house which is where this came from, the house is an absolute time warp inside, utterly brilliant.....all the furniture, carpets, rugs, ornaments, massive bar in the corner of the living room, beautiful old radio gram......christ i could have stayed there and just gazed at it all day

So i will report back in time as regards this machine, it is to date the oldest Keymatic i have, about 1966 I think, it is also built like a tank and in some ways could be more challenging to repair than later ones.

To hear the programmer clunk and whirr as it progresses is pure magic, plus the motor is not electronically controlled but uses a clutch mechansim for the spin, this leaves you in doubt that you are using a MACHINE ;-)

It came with its two keyplates and the lid for the top mounted soap draw

Hiya Gary.

I know I've just spoken to say 'CONGRATULATIONS!', but I will formalise it here too.

CONGRATULATIONS!

The dryer looks lovely and I am sure the A3794 will be really pleased to have gotten a partner.

As for the 3203 - get the Astonish paste out and, I am sure, that under that yellow will lie a lovely layer of sparkling white enamel.

Years of hearing nothing from the advert, bar the A3190, has all of a sudden in the last few months spawned you your Computer Logic 1300, Keymatic 1100 and now a February 1968 Keymatic de luxe. Patience pays off finally.

Really chuffed for you.

Enjoy the inevitable tinkering.

Paul

Tanks

Thanks Paul

Im fuggin nackered after all the driving matey :-).......but yea these things are still about it is so comforting to find them.......so it is a 68 model (only 8 years younger than me).

I think cleaning will be ok, it has a nice layer of kitchen grease all over it, and as we know that is a good thing as it protects the cabinet :-)

I am pleased to bits with the dryer and cant wait to try it out, maybe this weekend as you know i have two visitors here so that will fun :-) squeezed into the garage

Well you have an interesting collecion to make this weekend yourself which will deserve a section on its own :-).........always nice to get the unexpected...........so enjoy getting that and mind your back matey they are heavy :-)

Gary

Wow

Gary, Congratulation on your new finds. The 1968 Keymatic looks great and is in good condition for its age.

Hope you will post some videos of her when she is up and running.

Paul

Lucky you!

I'm just back from a short break from washing machines. Looks like the first 3203 found wasn't the last one surviving. Congratulations and enjoy it as she looks to be in good nick.

During my break I was organizing my own storage space which will be revealed this weekend.

Paul, I'm eager to find out what your next machine will be. All these rarities popping up sure give us some hope a 1600/1830 pops up.

I'm putting my ad's up again is the Spring as it is nearing Winter. This evaluates that ad's work even if they are slow at kicking off.

James.

It just goes to show.....

That there are still some beauties out there - to my knowledge this is the third of these machines to be rescued by a collector. Gary you do realise that two keymatics means that you have a collection within a collection - you will have to get the rest of them now ........

Well done mate
Al

Shit Appens ;-)

well just to finish off this week i picked up a Hoover Logic 1100 at work today, not very good condition but good for parts, so 3 oovahs in one week not bad.

AL
Thanks for that matey, how many fuggin more ave i got to get.......i tell you my head spins with it all, these things we love can kill us aswell me thinks ;-)

JAMES
Stick at it mate, as you can see stuff comes up keep your wanted ads running, yes Paul will have a nice surprise for us this weekend

Paul
I will do vids of this machine and the others at some point in time, as these machines come in they push others to the back of the "to Do"list one poor sod still waiting is the Hoover Topline Toploader which Mike got for me and Neils Spa took time and trouble to do up so it looks good.

I might if i have time have another fiddle with the keymatic tomorrow as the weekend will be busy

Speak later

Congratulation on finding 3 more oovahs.

It looks a bit of a beast, square and bulkier; bet there is some weight to it.
Great testament to Hoover quality, workman ship and design.

I’m heading out for a trip in the car this Saturday, heading up north of the country.
Maybe a busy week end all-round.

Hi Gary.

I know you will but, if that Logic 1100 is a spares machine, make sure you claim the facia if its in ok condition and gut it internally completely.

When I parted out a Hoover A3350 Electron 1100, all that went in the skip was the outer cabinet and the door frame. Even removed the ratings plate sticker and have the breeze block knocking around storage, always getting in the way!

Its amazing how light they are when you have emptied everything out of them and how useful the bits are/can be.

Paul will hopefully / possibly / might be collecting a machine this weekend. Will be ringing its current owner shortly!

Paul

Weekend Trips

LEE

Aye it is a bit heavier than normal though very light to move around on its wheels.
Well you have a good trip and keep us all posted :-)

Paul
Dont worry matey i have stripped a few machines (not saying which ones) i dont waste much either.
And again for you I hope you have a good trip and keep us posted :-)

All this activity generates energy :-) brilliant!

Lee/Gary

Thinking of everyone running round brings a smile to my face:-)

One bloomin busy Saturday of machine preservation this weekend.

Good trip to Lee:-)

Paul
p.s Gary - you dont want a breeze block do you?

'One bloomin busy Saturday of machine preservation this

If indeed thats what people are doing of course!

If people are out early Christmas shopping or seeing family, then you have a good Saturday too:-)

Paul

HOOVERJAMES

Just a thought James keep your adverst running all year, i hate to say this but the winter can mean the end for some elderly people and their goods........and winter also can mean the end for hard working machines, in my experience at work i have often found the onset of winter brings in more tumble dryers as they are put back into use

Just a thought James
Gary

That bloody breeze block!

if i trip over it once more!!!!!!!

Very kind of you too offer but i can safely say i am ok for them....

Well for some of us yes this will be a busy weekend in the washer world.......

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
Ok Paul if you insist ill have a hmmm let me see god knows ...... to be honest i am at the "dreading another phone call stage" but if it happens i will have to do what ever needs to be done.

CHRISTMAS
I am making some sausage rolls an pasties an things for the weekend snax and cooking a pre-christmas christmas dinner sunday so that has given me a sort of "shit its nearly christmas feeling" :-)

Gary...

I'll ask mum if I can put the ad's up again. So far I have the local electrical shop I'm friendly with on the look out, an ad in Freecycle, and an ad in the local free ad's paper again soon. The trouble with the free ad's paper is that I have to keep ringing in every two weeks to keep it rolling. The big disadvantage for me too is no long distance transport until I'm on the road.

James.

Great keymatic

well done on another great find gary, looking forward to meeting up over the weekend, and the early christmas dinner, great to see a well lit tree, with proper `screw in' lights lol. I take on the John Lewis moto, never knowingly under lit, you need at least 12 sets on an average tree.

Yes as christmas is a good few weeks away yet, the tree might be a bit over the top, but the odd string of pifco mini lanterns or cinderella carridges would be a nice touch lol.

Anyway this is a washer site, so the door gaskets are out ready and the keymatic owners club helpdesk will be manned for the usual hours, well when my phones on lol,

Mathew

Oovasss & Keyplates

Not a bad haul for a few days work...and yes they do keepeth coming!!!, my 3203 surfaced two days before Christmas and he wanted it picking up two days before New Year..nightmare!! what we do for these machines!!!

The dryer looks a great colour match with the plastic colour will look good side to side and stacked, the Keymatic is in great nic unlike the one I picked up and looked great from the back where it had been stored for 40yrs under the worktop but had had 40 yrs of tea dribbles and sink slops dripped over the front!!!

Its currently with Mark in Kings Lynn having the clutch renovated and the motor mounting bracket spot welded with a patch for the hole etc.... Then on to the Spar of Bob & Neil..

Look forward to seeing you and the new treasures and picking up the two new ones with Mathew on the way, gonna be a busy weekend, we`ll need those Cornish Pasties...LOl

A question from over here, if I may...

Is the Keymatic the one that uses 'key cards' to program the cycle? If so, can I ask how that works as I have not seen one here. Also, are these keycards 'changeable' or do you need a card for each different cycle with different options? Otherwise, congrats on the new machine. Always nice to see a rescue find the proper home!

RCD

I was going to say "No you cannot ask".... but I&#39

Perhaps this will answer your question. The card has 8 different programs, 4 on each side.

At the bottom of the card on the left it says "Special Treatments", the bottom of the card on the right says "(mumble mumble) light soil".

Does this help answer your question Drew?

OK, I have the card, now I just the a machine the card will work in! LOL

Kevin

revvinkevin++11-5-2010-18-54-15.jpg

Thanks, Kevin...

THAT'S what the card looks like. Does anyone have a picture of the inside of the reader? Does the notches in the card move sliding contacts or does the reader use microswitches maybe? Is the actual machine control electronic or does it use a timer of sorts?

RCD

Keyplates

All the models of keplates have different readers and the corresponding slots for the programmes can be different as well, heres a link to the previous posts, we have done links on keyplates but not all the reders / timers etc..

Currently down south on another Keymatic jaunt, will do a thread for readers when we get back??

Kevin, keep those keyplates safe they are quite rare & fragile!!!
