Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

Greg,

The third machine is my 1964 washer that I started to repair in another thread. I still need to repair the suds saver valve (I haven't found parts for it yet, I'm experimenting with some hoses) and replace the drain hoses (that I ordered).

At least the transmission works now!

and Ken appreciates it!

I have a DA-820P also. It's outside next to the basement door and I haven't unwrapped it because I've run out of room in the basement. I need to take some steroids and find a super-duper appliance moving-appliance to rearrange the puzzle of squares that my basement has now become.

The air freshener on the 1957 dryers operated like the ones on some old Hoover uprights. You purchase a fragrance tablet that you drop into that little plastic box in back of the air freshener tab and it perfumes the load by virtue of what little air is sucked into and through the backsplash into the intake airstream. Those tablets are so stinky that I think you could achieve the same freshening power by putting one of them in the same room with the dryer. The one that came with my Hoover was so objectionable that I threw it out immediately. I'm told that there are nicer ones but I haven't researched that because I'm inundated by "projects".

I was disappointed by my first GE Clothes Conditioner with the pressurized spray that is no longer available. I think the old system that's on these dryers is a better system. I think you're familiar with this other dryer:

John, that would be great! I did replace the water bellows and install a drain hose and it doesn't leak. All I need to repair now is the suds saver valve!

Can you send me his contact info or do you prefer to talk to him directly?

Great dryer! I love GE's from the late 50's. The 57 model was so cool with the dial on the left and in pink! I can't wait to see the matching washer!
