"Green" Detergents?

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Yeah, a lot of these things are more complicated than they appear. Yet again I commence to miss my grandfather. He was a chemist and had a real gift for explaining things in a way anyone could understand.

Another example: Years ago my brother-in-law got a job in a paper mill. One thing he was surprised to learn was that "all natural", brown, unbleached paper plates actually had a larger carbon footprint and consumed more resources than conventional white paper plates. I forget how/why that's the case, sorry.

Jim.

Too bad your grand dad isn't around, to talk to about these things!
I do know that since WWII over 80000 chemicals have been introduced to the average home..that were not there before the war.
This includes not only our cleaning and laundry products, but also personal care products.
After learning this, I gave it some thought, and decided to try to do my cleaning with what would have been "under the sink" in the early 1940s
Real Soap (not detergent) Bar form and liquid castile.
Bon Ami
Barkeepers Friend. (Works great on brass, and rust, even rust on fabric)
Vinegar (full strength in a spray bottle)
Just with those 5 items, you'd be surprised what you can get clean.
To me, a little Clorox in the toilet is a necessity. And since it was around then...

Can recommend Astonish products too though the laundry detergent is only non bio so would need a booster for stains otherwise good.
