Help Support :

Hi again

Twinniefan, thanks for the pictures, interesting to see what the newer models are like.
Mike, thanks for you help, grans was just like that but with the white lids. Yours looks great.
Have spotted a 5090 on ebay which am quite tempted by, I know its not got the style of the earlier models but have been thinking - maybe its a good model to start with - can always expand my collection later on if it gets me hooked! Whats a reasonable price to pay for these? Its on at £50 buy it now at the moment but looks in decent condition.

There is no rhyme or reason to twin tub pricing. Some units in great conditon go cheap, others in less perfect shape can sell for very dear amounts.

Normally much depends, as with all large appliances, on location. If the unit is some where out on the moors or some tiny village in Devon, it probably won't sell for the same amount if it was some where nice and central, say London, for instance.

However it is worth a trip, if possible to nab a unit in good or even mint condtion. Some have driven and taken a boat train and reverse to pick up good units on the other side of the Channel.

Your other option is to keep your eyes open at tips and curbsides for discarded units. You would be surprised how many perfectly working twinnies are chucked out simply because someone purchased something new and modern, or their gran passed on and no one wanted the thing.

When purchasing a twin tub, first inquiry to any seller should be about the pump. Hoover models in particular tended to have pumps that gave out, which wasn't a problem back in the day, as the pumps were designed to be repaired. However Hoover no longer produces twin tubs, and stopped recently stopped production of spares as well in the UK. While there are some "new old stock" parts and bits about, pumps are hard to come by. Without the pump, the unit is useless as no other pumps will fit.

Hoover Tubs

I LOVE those heavy duty metal tubs that everyone else but the US gets. I've got a US model T1003 (avocado green) and the tubs are molded plastic. I still love em, but that washtub is NICE. The colors here are nice though, I don't see a lot of the non-US models with a lot of color.

Hoover n Colour!!!

Hi Tim, yes we all think grass is greener!!! your early machines like Laundresses, had the metal non shiny tubs and where hardwearing, then from the machine you have Hoover switched to the shiny stainless steel or the molded plastics as produced in North Canton.

Difference being ours had the 3kw heater in so plastic options where out, BUT what fabulous colours you guys had!!! all those turquoises, advocadoes, harvest golds and coppertones!!!one thing hoover was never afraid of was COLOUR...LOL

Heres a pic of some of Tom Andersons machines from the Hoover Convention last year as demonstrated by twinny washer extrordinaire MickeyD...

Hi Paul, you are spot on with the model number on the Hotpoint Twin Six..it was a 1410, the cheaper version of the 1400 Supermatic. I collected the Twin 6 from London yesterday morning, in good condition, but needs a good clean up...may indulge in some "Limelite-ing" later !!

It is such a weird set up, a hose is plugged into the left-hand corner of the wash tub to empty the spinner and then another is inserted into the right hand corner of the wash tub to empty the tub..why not just have a hose come out the back for the spinner...bizzare !!

Have a look at the pic to see the machine..these machines were only made for 18mths..so glad to get one.

Cheers..Keith

Yes, One Always Wears High Heels & A Smart Frock

On wash day. Well at least she's wearing a pinny.

Nice Kenwood mixer on the counter!

Pray tell, what was so special about Hotpoint's wash system that it did not tangle laundry a la Hoover and perhaps other twin tubs? Did it have an agitator?

Bought one!!!

Hi guys,
Thought I'd let you know. Have just bought a twin tub. Plumped for the T5090 Hoovermatic in the end, should be picking it up this week. Can't wait to give it a try. Btw whats the best soap powder to use in your opinions? Not many of the old type phosphate based high suds powders around now. Soap flakes with/without washing soda I'd heard elsewhere are supposed to work quite well...?

Instruction Manual

Sorry to ask but does anyone have an instruction manual for the T5090 that they wouldn't mind emailing me? Or know if they're available to view online anywhere?
Don't think the one I've bought will come with one

Thanks
Pete

Cant wait to see piccies Keith!

Congratulations on a great find - Twin Six 1410. fantastic.
Now i have to fathom out what the 1411 was - and what was all the LA and LB lark about?

You know me - a never ending torrent of questions, questions and more questions.

Really pleased for you.
paul

Hiya Pete.
Great purchase - the last of a great line. One thing I noticed about the T5090 was just how light it was compared with its predecessors.
Had to move a number of machines, wehen I was helping a very good mate sort his storage container out. Moving loads of frontloaders and some vintage twinnies and single tubs. Knackering work. Then we came to move the T5090 - felt so light as to be able to be able to swing it around your head. not really, but you know what I mean.

Saw a T5090 for sale on a recent trip back to my parents - the shop wanted £80.00 (thats right aint it Rob?). Looked in good nick, but we are strapped for space at the moment, so we left it.

Cant help with the instruction manual. weirdly, this is one of the few T50XX twinny models that i have never seen an instruction manual for (that I can remember anyway). I am sure there will be one out there somewhere.

Have fun with your new purcahse and be sure to show it off, with a thread.

Cheers
paul

Hey Pete, hope you're getting on well with your HMDL, have you had the chance to use it properly yet? The only issues I have with Hoover machines is the inability to heat and spin at the same time, and their sensitivity to being overloaded. By the way Mike, my way of loading washing now involves 'measuring' loads in the spin can first, so I don't have to fish items out to get a turnover going...

I used to use Fairy Snow in mine, but it seems to have been discontinued, so stick to either Persil TT or store brands, as bio powders and I don't get on well! Soap flakes need thorough rinsing out in hot water, else they come out feeling greasy, trust me!!!

Keith - congratulations on the Twin Six - does it have a wash timer? Can't wait for pictures.

Simon
